headlight bulb

My headlight doesn't work at all. The high beam indicator light stays on regardless of switch position. Bulb looks like an upgrade. Has a ballast. HID I assume. Where is the best place to get a replacement? Can just the bulbs be replaced? It's a 6000k system.

That's an HID. You can find a ton of bulbs in different color temps on ebay, but most are crap. I've used bulbs from ddm tuning and havent had issues. I keep a spare in my tool bag. Plug and play with your ballast.

Ive had two sets of crap bulbs blow. They looked burned or piss yellow in the center of the glass. Yours looks pretty clear. Also the high beam indicator staying on makes me wonder if u have different issue. You may try running 12v directly to that 3 prong connector to test your lights first. The black wire is common ground, the other two reds will fire the filament high beam or the hid low.

Thanks ChoppaNoob. just checked the bulb. wired the setup directly and both high and low work. Fuse looked good so I guess that my next step is to check the headlight wires under the tank. could this also be the source of my other problem? (see other post) my bike cut out on me a few times during a ride. ending with my bike on a trailer.

Yes it could be. Any bare wires could be shorting and giving you shit. I've had a short in my headlight bucket kill the whole bike. The easiest way to check is to put a voltmeter on the battery. Turn the key on and start wiggling / inspecting wires. You may also keep an eye on the high beam indicator to see if it cuts in / out. Others will chime in to help you with bdm specific info in your other thread.

I checked voltage to the bulb in the housing and at the first connector under the tank and I'm only getting 4 volts on the high and 0 volts on the low or visa versa (not sure). Tomorrow I'll have to trace it back further to the HCI. I hate taking the side covers off.

Without any good bulb installed the EHC might not send power to the socket if the EHC can't sense any current flow.

I think the 2005+ EHC's will also try to turn on the high beam if it senses the low beam is bad.

Without any bulb, my 2007 EHC flashes the high beam indicator as well.

I know if your low beam goes out it will automatically go to High beam. If you hit low, it will turn off for a half a sec and go back to high. Replace bulb only.
