Headlamp replacement, not just bulb

All,

I tried replacing my headlamp, the an aftermarket 2-wire lamp. The ground is in the headlight, therefore no black wired needed. However, I took the old one off wired it up and the light does not turn on at all. I disconnected and attached my original light to the wires from the bike to see if that would and still nothing. The high beam indicator on my speedo just flahses. Any ideas?

Hmmm, my problem right now is neither the new or headlamp work. Before I even consider buying a new one (which I would rather get the new I purchased to work) I should at least get the old one working again. The only thing wrong with the old one is the chrome was bad and the bezel fell out.

Look at the instructions for installing the one you just posted, the ground is not on the bucket but goes back into the wiring harness

I had to fly out of town last week, so I am finally getting to look at this again.

The new light has a red wire for high beam and a yellow for low beam. The ground is supposed to stay in the bucket. However, I decided to wire up the old light and see what happens. I tried using the connector, but it was a little melted at these tend to do so I wired up the light directly and still nothing.

The light you are seeing is the light bulb I took out of the bike which was working when I uninstalled it. I also tried connecting an alligator clip the ground wire and feeding it back to the battery to see if that would help and still nothing. \\

Any ideas?

Another quick test I did was connect alligator clips to the ground of the bulb and the yellow (low beam) and the bulb lit up. For what ever reason the ECU is not reading that it is hooked up. Other than a bad ECU which seems odd from just replacing a light I am at a loss.

Check for power at hi/lo beam wires coming from the harness to the front with headlight dis-connected using the original ground and also battery negative. If no power with key on then may need to check switch and harness.

I will check that now, do you know where the harness connects at? Is it near the ECU?

Not sure about the harness connections but should all go to the EHC. Swapping one light for another should not affect the EHC unless something was shorted out. Always disconnect your battery when working on electrical components. Franco can send you a digital manual by email depending on model and year. I have an 03 Pitbull manual for my scoot from Franco.

Where is the socket? this black wire you mentioned, is it a ground wire to the socket? if so try connecting it to the new housing and see if that makes any difference. without a schematic it's hard to tell what exactly you have. just a thought.

The wire harness that goes to the headlight attaches to the harness coming from the EHC. That harness connector (JST) is located under the gas tank. You need to take the tank off the figure with one is the right harness. If the new head light came with a JST connector, plug it in to the JST connector under the tank. If it did not come with a JST connector that is plug and play at the JST connector under the Gas Tank than you have a head light the will not work on your bike unless you make it a three wire set up or hook it up direct from the battery via a Relay, and a toggle switch. I would send it back and get one from Curtis at WSW and save money and time. You are going to end up frying you EHC trying to get the light to work without a ground wire

Sure enough the connection under the tank had come loose. It actually does not connect very tightly so I wrapped with some electrical tape. Thank you all for you help. New light works like a charm.
