Head light stop working on my 97 bigdog.think i have short to ground on high beem side at plug?low beem has 12 volts at plug.help

Common problem. The heat from the light will melt the plug. Replace the plug. Some are using a ceramic plug, but what ever plug you go with, make sure the terminals are tight. Also consider a LED headlight

Could be one or both filaments in the headlamp are burnt out. I couldn't tell from your post if the low beam actually worked or not.

Thanks for reply all bulbs removed.low beem & high beem don't work at plug.but do work wired direct to batt?not a bad filament that i can tell.didn"t remove tail light bulb?

OK you seem to have a good bulb, High and Low filaments are good. You have voltage at the low beam part of the connector. I'm assuming the connector looks good to you ie not burnt or melted. I'm not familiar with the headlamp you have specifically but it would seem you have lost the ground inside the housing. Power + ground = Light. Can you figure out where the housing is grounded ? From what I can see from this Wire Diagram the lamp grounds to frame. Also CB 1 is the breaker for headlamp and tail lamp circuits. If you had a short it would blow and no headlamp or tail lamp. My guess is you have an open to ground.
I'm not certain this is the WD for your bike but Mr Wright who posted his dropbox link in post #3 would know for sure.

Mr.wright apeachate advice.but dont see any signs of heat on the plug.looks in good shape?already bought halo light.the sealed beem seems to be ok?
