Hello all.

Anyone familiar with Harleys syn3 all purpose fluid? I spoke to Harley and BDM and they both say it should be ok in the engine and primary. I contacted Baker but havent received a reply. Any thoughts out there?

I got sucked into the idea of it and ran it in all 3 for about 10 miles. Shifted like crap and sounded like I had thrown some marbles in the transmission. I thought about it and realized that excessive drinking may have clouded my judgement (as it did in getting married and enlisting in the Army). You can run almost any oil in primary (to include ATF) as tolerances aren't tight and it doesn't operate under high heat, but some things are better than other. I now stick with Spectro or another primaty specific fluid. I do not run synthetic in engine because of weeping issues I have seen (but some folks say is BS). Do a search on here for other choices. I don't know why Harley thought it was a good idea, but I guess it might have something to do with selling more bikes.

There's been several threads about running synthetics in the primaries and some have had clutch slippage issues with running it. Just saying...

All excellent responses, and I thank you all for your info and time.
Im going to do a full fluid swap after Bikeweek.

First of all syn oil is used to lower heat and friction so I wouldn't use it in the primary, second a 20/50 weight is way lite for the trans gears I'm sure Baker will tel you nothing less than 75/140 weight.

Do you run engine oil in the transmission of car. NO Use the product made for the application. Each compartment has it's own unique lubrication needs. I personally like Red Line but others on here like other products as well.
