I personally would go somewhere else if a dealership would give you that much grief over changing a tire.

My local HD didn't care what I rode when they changed my rear tire (wheel was off the bike)... and they charged me one hour of shop labor, no BS shop fees, disposal fees, etc... it was a flat $80 plus tax.

Been buying all my tires from a local Victory dealer with the tire changing equipment to change tires without messing up my wheels. $15 mounting and $15 balance and they do it while I wait, I always remove the wheels myself to avoid damage to my bike so its a simple stop and I am on my way. They also sell the tires(Avon) very close to mail order price and I am supporting a business that I want to see stay in business.

I agree with Knotso. There are independent shops all over the place that you don't realize are around you. Find one and use them. I get the same crap every time I roll into my local Harley dealer. Most of the time just to brouse. I don't get it. 5% of those guys are welcoming in my opinion. The other 95% are too proud or stubborn to even acknowledge you. They just stare and talk under their breath. Either way I still like Harley.

I have a HD that is under warranty that is serviced by my local dealer. I told the service manager that I also have a Big Dog and he told me he would service or repair it if I couldn't do it myself. Sounds like your HD dealership may be a little strange so I would try to find another repair shop. There's plenty of good repair shops out there (several bad ones too), so you may ask riding buddies for referrals.

Just a little advice, my buddy owns a tire shop. You can go to any tire shop that has the new machines and they can do it. All they need to do is change the position of the hooks to accomodate your size rim. They usually get it done for $15-20 bucks and a new set of Dynobeads and your good to go. You don't need a mc specific shop.

:(This is sad. Like the others say "Try somewhere else". You could also do it yourself! Check out No-Mar: Scratch Proof Wheel Locking System, Beats Coats 220 - Safe for Carbon Fiber Wheels. which is pricey but I figure with 5 bikes and friends, it will pay for itself (ok, not really) but it is an option. I have one I bought at a bike rally in Birmingham with a discount. I also have a couple of wheel balancers. I used a Harbor Freight tire changer before NoMar and took extra precautions to not scratch the wheels. There are a couple of models of NoMar that can do up to 360mm tires.:D

There are a lot of great independent shops that want your business.
I don't have HD dealership anywhere nearby and I found a guy that has a good local rep that only works on V-Twin American bikes. That was all I had to hear. He'll inspect metrics and do tires, but he tell folks up front he can't work on them. He's always got something tore apart in his shop so I'm confident that he knows what he's doing. Matter of fact, he just found him an old basket case Big Dog he's going to put back to life. For me, it doesn't get much better than that.:2thumbs:
