HD Controls on a 2005 Chopper

I want to change the handlebars, risers, grips and controls to 1" HD style on my 05 Chopper when I get it. I don't care for the stock bars and controls and like to run MX style grips. I did a search and couldn't find any write ups except the old school wiring threads. I have the R.I.P. kit installed. Is it possible to convert the hand controls without re-wiring the whole bike? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You will have to modify a few things to make it work. Even though the RIP uses the Thunder-heart micro controller designed for HDs, a few things were done in the harness to account for the momentary switches that these bikes have. IE the Run/Stop, High/Low switches. First - Which RIP do you have? The one that has the entire harness or the one with the Adapter?

FYI - If your bars are in really good shape (no sctratches), if the price is right I might be interested in buying them.

There's always a way, just depends on your skill level. It also depends on if you ever want to put it back or sell things. My initial thought would be to call Thunder-heart and see if they will sell you a new harness for their micro-controller. Then you can just use their wiring instructions and boom, done. It's been awhile since I looked at the schematic and would have to think about the best way.

Conceptually - From the high/low and the run/stop buttons the wires run down to the little grey box in the harness. That is the convertor, from there it goes to the micro controller high command input and the Kill command input. You can remove the convertor and replace with a jumper connector.

You can order the JST connectors and pins online (Wild Steed has them or you can search the internet). From the handlebars you have wires for the High/Low and a set for the run/stop. You can make a new jumper and cross the leads to where they should go.

Not sure this helps or not.
