Having trouble removing stock cam

I need some help guys. I'm doing some mods to the dog and ran into a snag. I read a few posts on installing a 585 cam. I loosened all the lower lock nuts and all rods turn freely by hand but the front one. I'm assuming that is why I can't remove the cam. What am I missing?

The lobes of the cam are prolly interfering with the lifters. :bang: You need to remove the pushrods, and tubes, raise the lifters, and the cam should pull out. :eek:

:eek: you are doing what :loony: Hope you know how to adjust the valves correctly. Make sure you mark the Push rods as they are different lengths and need to go back where they came from. Holler if you need help before you start that dog.

dont forget to make sure you properley shim that new cam!make sure you also have the right gear on that new cam!!

yep gotta raise the lifters up... and probably remove the rear tappet block to check end play in cam...let me know if you need shim...they are hard to find and i bought a assortment pack. if you dont have quickiee pushrods you may have to remove tops and rockerarms...

Hey guys. Thanks for all the info. I just finished installing the new cam. I mic'd the stock cam and the new one, exact same. I removed the rocker covers and assembly inside the box, removed the push rods(they're back in the right slots). Installed the new 585, reinstalled assembly and torqued all bolts to BDM specs. Awaiting cam cover gasket and rocker box cover gaskets.

Again, thanks for all the help. I was determined to do this myself. Now need to get belt back from painter(just installed a new Karata), so I can finished the primary/adjust pushrods. Then install a new S&S dual runner intake. I definately will post some pics when everything is finished.

We should really all pic a weekend and meet up an Finnigan's Irish Pub across from Pat O'Brians on St. Peters I believe. Cool little pub. Park bikes right out front. Rocky is having some paint work done on her Mastiff and I'm waiting on my tranny to come back from Baker, so it may be a month before we're all back in one piece. :cheers:

Hopefully soon Nuke. Brad, that sounds like a plan to me. I hopeing to have everything done in a week or so. I'm not sure when I'll get my belt back from the painter(he's painting my girlfriends bike as well). I will definately post some pics when it's all back togather.
