Last Tuesday, I got off work @ 5:30 pm and ran over to the HD dealer for a part for the Ultra. The outside temp was around 103*-105*. I left the dealership and was getting on I-220, Traffic was coming and no one was in front. I was coming up the onramp getting on so I Rolled the throttle back 100% & went through gears 2, 3 and before I pulled the clutch to go into 4th, the engine just nosed over power went to shit. I rolled the throttle off and then rolled it back 100% again and the bike took off like a rocket again as if nothing was wrong. I'm thinking maybe a vapor fart from the high tempature. The motor was good and hot from the 5 mile ride to the dealership and I was only inside the dealer for 5 minutes and the dealer is located 400 yds from I-220, so the engine didn't cool off any. I also got way out infront of traffic and slowed down to 25mph then rolled the throttle back 100% and went through gears again. It never fell off again!:confused: Remember this is a 2003 BDM Chopper with a 107SS motor.

I had a lot more Rpm's left in 3rd gear maybe as much as 500-700 before red line.

That has happened to me a couple of times. I was never able to pin point exactly what it was...but I changed the fuel filter out and it hasn't done it in a while. That was what made me put the oil cooler on to begin with. I now know the oil cooler didn't help...Thanks to your post. I put the oil cooler and the new fuel filter on at the same time.

how much gas did you have in the tank? maybe all the gas went to the back of the tank and uncovered the petcock when you were in low gear and you got an air bubble in the gas line. just a thought.

Happens to me here in Vegas all the time in the summer.
Park bike, run in to grab something real quick, starts up fine, then go to take off bike bucks a few times in 1st and 2nd, then it's just fine.
It happened on my '05 chopper and the same on my '07.
It's a vapor lock and only happens in the extreme heat of summer, nothing to worry about.

In the 8 years I have owned the bike, it has never done this. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

The "vapor farts"...ha, ha...I like you guys that anthropomorphize your motorcycle.

Let me try....

She's a sweet ride but she has vapor farts when it's hot. After she finishes farting she runs like a scalded dog.
