So, days ago my clutch cable snapped. OK... Replaced that.

A couple of days, a couple of rides, and I've got a LOT of slop in my lever. A little stretch? I don't know. Next night miles from home... No clutch. Limp cable; Limp home. Lucky with lights.

Take right side apart. My work looks fine. Call Bandit order clutch.

I read Jake's most excellent how to on installing Bandit clutch. Decide to get a head start and break open primary looking for metal chunks... Nothing.

Grab clutch assembly and find it sliding on splines in and out 1/4 inch or so. Look inside primary cover and the four clutch bolts have been digging into primary cover.

Remove pressure plate. Thrilled to find I have a 1 1/4" socket, I go to unscrew clutch hub nut. ... ... Already spinning freely. Errrr.

So now I know where the slop in the cable came from. I know why if I rev'd the motor I got some clutch back (the glory of left hand threads).

So do I leave the bike apart and go ahead with the Bandit install, just replace the nut with a dab of red, what? Errrrrr.

Now questions about the bandit install... John at bandit as well as Jake talk of having to cut away that little ear on the primary cover. Mine is an 07 chopper and I have no such boss/ear to cut away. Is this a known difference in model years? I'm concerned John at Bandit didn't recognize this. Are there different clutches for different year dogs?

What's up with his assuming I'd have that ear to grind away?

I feel like leaving well enough alone, retorqueing the nut and buttoning the beast back up.

In my shoes, what would the forum gurus do?

Carrier coming loose is common, probably dozens of threads on it! Go with the Bandit! I still have the stock carrier with the Bandit Clutch and Hub.:2thumbs:

Do you have a shim on the tranny shaft? Look inside of main seal against the bearing. An '07 should have had one, but I have read that with the Bandit clutch the shim is a must.

Great! LOL! 50/50

Poll?

Well, here is a pic of the primary cover. What about my primary cover? No ear/boss as Jake called it. Should I be concerned?

The only thing close isn't really close to Jake's pic. And for the looking, you can see the gouges from the pressure plate bolts.
