Has anybody had peg vibration ??

I started riding on the highway for the first time this weekend,and noticed that the right foot peg is carrying a vibration so hard thru it that I can barely keep my foot on the peg.The left is not like this though.Everything seems to be tight,Is this just normal characteristic of the 117 driveline?

Check the two motor mount bolts on top of your coil.

Totally normal for my 2004 chopper pumping 175 hp out of a 124 cube S&S with chain drive secondary, but not for a stock 117. 117's aren't as smooth as the 107's were but your description says something isn't right. Lots of things can cause excessive vibration and i won't even begin to try to diagnose it with out riding it. But remember this, Harley type engines fire both cylinders on the same revolution and exhaust both on the next. This causes the famous "potato-potato" exhaust sound but makes for vibration. Loose engine or trans mount bolts, ignition problems, driveline problems, being in too high a gear and even spark plug gap can cause additional vibration. "Just my 2 cents worth."

The big center motor mount under the tank came loose on my 06. Make sure you check it at every service.

when i first got my bike i was in the same boat,just not used to the vibration,i posted many times about this and was told to cowboy up or buy a rubber mounted motor bike and various other type adjectives,i hooked up with ohmster on day in sturgis at the big dog trailer and he took off my motor mount bolt changed it to a newer version and things have calmed down somewhat,but it still vibrates ...you will get used to it after fixing the motor mount situation.......

If it's vibrating so much that you can't keep your foot planted and only happening on the one side then somethings obviously up. Hopefully it's something as quick and easy as your motor mount bolts, good luck.

my right peg vibrates enough to move my foot off the peg sometimes, and the motor mount is tight. i have found that my foot moves a lot more if there is oil/debris on the bottom of my boot. when you put your foot down at a traffic light, toll booth, parking lot, etc., you tend to get crap on your shoes. when that is the situation, it doesn't take much vibration to move your foot.

Hmmmmmm....... That is strange that it is only on one side. My wife complains that her foot vibrates off of the right foot peg every time she drives our Dog. I never notice it.

Have the same situation every once in a while at certain RPMs......motor mount bolts are tight - I check all bolts regularly - so I just keep riding......interesting thought from woodbutcher about crud on the bottom of the boot - will have to check for that next time........

About a month ago I changed my tires but didn't bother to rebalance them since I was waiting on my Dyna Beads. I rode it anyway and had a bad vibration that I noticed on the pegs. The vibe was noticed on both pegs. I put the Dyan Beads in and it's smooth as silk. Long story to ask the obvious, are your tires balanced? Does the vibration happen at a certain RPM or certain speed?


Just a thought.

Great question - don't really experience any chopper wobble or handling issues at higher speeds (over 75) but will recheck tire balance. Thanks.

My whole bike shakes but I expect it too...I have had my right foot vibrate until it fell off the peg once going down the interstate. That will get your attention. I tighten everything up pretty regular too or the ole lady will have to pick it up on here morning walks. Mirrors are worthless going down the road from the vibration but they pick up flashing lights just fine...

they told me at the dealership right side vibrates more due to it being right side drive like the passenger peg will go down sometimes and also the bolts in the sissybar will come loose on that side too

Check all of your motor mounting bolts. That top one comes loose alot, but you will also get some serious buzzing if the lower mounts come loose.

Guess I'm like Neil. My shovelhead shakes. My '98 heritage springer shakes (not so bad since the foot boards and handlebars are cushioned). And my S&S 107 shakes (especially when I get on the throttle).

I guess that's why I have always liked rubber on my footpegs (and not plain steel).

You can have both but you gotta be willing to go the dirtbike route like I did, my feet stay put now with these.

Then I powdercoated them over the winter and they still work great.
