Maybe this has been discussed before, but I like the look of the Harley style hollow ignition key. Anybody done this mod? And are there any voltage issues with using such a setup? I would like to keep the same key location as stock.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Mike - not sure if you can do this on your bike (assuming you still got the EHC) but no doubt Jake will correct me if i'm wrong.

The HD switches are made to take higher current loads than the stock BDM switch. I would say that there would be no problems replacing your switch with a two position barrel key switch.

CAUTION THOUGH!!! The barrel switches off Ebay and most through some of the distributors are JUNK!!! Buy a OEM Harley switch.

I have one in my bike now and the key falls out and it has gotten to the point where it doesn't operate as smooth as it did when new.

I am replacing my barrel switch with a Wire-Plus switch or with their keyless ignition unit when it is available.

Right on! Don't use the ones off ebay (they are JUNK).

I have gone through 2 of the 3 position barrel keys and they both failed after a while. I think the heat from the motor into the motor mount coil cover is too much for them. I finally went to a sportster flat key from Harley and so far it seem OK.

I can will post a pic of what the heat did.
