I have been told not to get them wet. What is in there that doesn't like water? I have washed my Harley ones for years with no problem. What is the best way not to get them wet? I have to use the carwash water is hard at home.

An unprotected circuit board

Your best bet is to spray ALL of the circuit boards with a good marine conformal coating. Do a search for waterproofing.

plastic bags over the bar ends and plastic tucked in around the battery may keep water from getting in. I would also be concerned about the water pressure at a car wash pushing water into areas where there are unprotected electrical connections
