gps tracker

I am about to embark on a 7000 mile ride and my wife is worried I won't make it back and wants me to use a gps tracker so she knows where I am (or where I died). I was looking at some of them that I can simply toss into the sissy bar bag but have no experience with these things so am looking for suggestions.

There is a free app you can put on your smart phone called "Life360". We got it when my daughter started driving. Pretty cool... Example below:

One of the old ones.
Or download the 'find friends' app on your cell phones. Wifey can check anytime and know if I'm moving---all is good. Plus you can turn it off when you get home.
Like Bill, my son-in-law prefers Waze.

if you use the Waze app you can share location, routes and ETA. https://www.wikihow.com/Share-Your-Location-in-Waze

then when you leave the driveway drive to the local truck stop and tape your phone to the underside of a big rig.;) kidding of course. enjoy the journey.
probably the best idea I have heard. no traking and no phone - what a way to go. just like when I was young. I could travel for weeks without a phone.

well I got out voted. I purchased a Garmin InReach Se. a bit expensive but after looking at Spot which requires a $200+ annual service fee, this was a better deal as I can pay only for the time I use it. it has a two week battery life so I can throw it in the pack and only have to remember to charge it once every two weeks. So the wife is happy so guess that makes me happy

Rever is a new GPS MC app and you can invite people to track your trips. I haven't figured out if you need the annual membership or not for that though. I know the annual membership is required to setup a group with everyone's rides not sure on individual friends.

interesting. Rever is a smartphone app but to share data you need a cell connection. the Garmin that I mentioned uses satellites. different technology. both are good, but satellite works all over where cellular requires towers. anyhow a very interesting concept although I am not sure how they make money except through mobile advertising.
