:bang::bang::bang::bang:So I've posted elsewhere that I'm having engine troubles and taking the bike in to get fixed as soon as the bank account has something in it. So I'm just about there, battery which is new has been on a Big Dog tender since hell I don't know April and is fully charged and ready to go but has been out of the bike. I'm fixin to take bike next weekend to mechanic to fix so I throw the battery in it and nothing, no lights no nothing. all connections are good and clean and the fuse that goes from the battery to a relay is good. What the hell?? Could somebody jus do a drive by and shoot me.:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

is gonna take a few days for me to get there:D just kidding, have your battery load tested, then check all connections to the battery. unless your starter is shot, it should roll over.

was the battery sitting on concrete? definitely a no-no. but, yes, do get the battery load tested for bad cells.

Also verify you have all termials connected and none slide down out of sight and you forgot to connect them.

And then?

Thanks guys but I did all you suggested before I posted the first time. Cleaned all terminals, battery is new and tested like a new battery should. No lights anywhere, turn, headlight, nothing on the EHC

might want to do a ohm test on the cables. could have some corrosion inside the insulation making for a bad ground.

Was the bike running good before back in April, etc? I had a bad tender once that destroyed a battery because it was on the tender all the time. It was a battery on another bike (Not a Big Dog). I tossed the tender. Are you sure the battery is good with a good capacity test done? I also left one of many connections off once. It can happen. Some bikes have a lot of connections to hook up to the battery and it is easy for one to get missed and fall down and not be seen.

Hmmmm

I'll check all connections one more time although I sat and stared at the dam thing for hours yesterday and quadruple check everything . Bike was fine in April when I took battery out now nothing. Have had battery check at Napa and it tests great.

Ok I'm back to just shoot me. All connections are clean enough to eat off of. My bike is the 2005 Chopper DT. There is a ground and a hot that come from the EHC that connect to the battery. There is a ground and a hot that come from the starter that connect to the battery. There is one other hot cable that connects to the battery and goes to a relay. All these connections have been clean and tightened. I could start my freaking car with this battery. What the hell am I missing?

pull the back ofF your starter and push the Bendix in with screw driver, have the key on and hit the run start buttons. also, have you tried rolling while in gear to see if anything is stuck. there's a couple threads on this subject. one good one by member moespeed.

I do appreciate

It's not that I don't appreciate the help but maybe I'm not being clear. Since I've had the bike when I turn the key on all lights come on. Headlight, tail lights and speedometer and such. Since I put the battery back in yesterday when I turn the key on I get nothing. Rolling the bike to see if something is stuck would not have anything to do with the problem I'm describing as far as I know but thanks. I just spent another two hours going over everything I could think of again with the same results....... Nothing ...... Zip ...... Nada ...... O ....... The end.

check where your ground wire mounts to the starter bolt on backside of primary/motorplate, follow it from battery on down, gotta be your wires if lights or tach wont even come on, corrosion , broke cable etc

Check your fuses or breakers. If it was fine in April, it was something that happened when you reconnected the Battery. If you are sure the connections are right, check any fuses and breakers. It sounds to me like it is going to be a simple fix. Also, try disconnecting the battery, removing it from the bike, and then putting it in again.

I just don't know anymore

So after dealing with the frustration and with a suggestion from the girl friend I took the battery out and had it tested at O'rellys and it turns out that their test equip says the battery is toast. What the hell is a guy to do? Napa auto says battery is great, take it somewhere else and it's toast? You just can't trust anyone today:( come Monday morning I will contact the place I bought the battery from and see if there is any recourse, also I've been using the new Genius G1100 Wicked Smart Charger to maintain the battery and now I don't know if it could have been the cause?

Just a little info from my experience.....

I had a G1100 go bad once and it was replaced under warrenty and so I now have 2 good ones.

I also had a battery that had a bad cell which only acted up once in a while. Sometimes it started my Triumph great and sometimes just click. We finally found out it had a bad cell with an intermittent failure.

The End of This Story

We'll so after returning battery to Modesto Battery, the place I bought it from, they tested it and low and behold it was toast but because it was still under warranty they gave me a brand new complete with apologies. I put the new battery in bike and all is well. I'm also returning the Genius G1100 Smart Charger to The NOCO company for replacement. If you've lost your receipt like I have it's $18.85 to exchange for a new one. Again thanks to all for chiming in and especially to Nukeranger as apparently you had the exact same issue. Now it's off to the mechanics shop to get her insides taken care of. Have a great New Year all and talk to all soon when we see what happened inside bike.:up::up::up::up:
