Would you continue wearing a helmet, if they made it a choice?

For those of you in helmet mandatory states, if you were given the option, would you ditch the helmet and go without?

Related story: Tennessee Proposed Bill To Allow Motorcyclists To Ride Without A Helmet. Tennessee is one of 19 states with a helmet law. The proposed legislation would allow anyone 21 or older to ride without a helmet. A new legislation aiming to give motorcycle drivers the option of being on the road without a helmet has passed a House Finance subcommittee. The bill has some limitations. You have to be 21 years old, and be covered by private health or medical insurance. Supporters of the bill cited a Pennsylvania study showing motorcycle registrations go up after a helmet law is repealed. There are more than 167,000 motorcycles registered in Tennessee.

We don't have to wear one here in Ohio. I wear a full face helmet because the wind bothers my ears. I wear a hard hat all day so it is no big deal to me. My daughter the doctor says it is easier to put you're brains back in you're skull if they are all in a bucket. Go figure.

We do have a choice here. I try to wear it most of the time because I've been hit by enough crazies in my SUV but I'll admit when it's really hot outside or when it's something slow paced like a toy run, I don't.

I think it should be a riders choice, I prefer to ride without one, I think it takes too much freedom away from the experience and ride, I like being in the open and wearing a helmet restricts my vision, its like riding with a box on my head. To each their own, ride safe boys:old2::chopper:

I FULLY respect everybody who wears a helmet, and I do believe its is the SMART choice. That being said, I don't even own one. Stupid, I know.
We don't need one in Fl and I don't wear one. It's a 50/50 roll the dice to me so I'd rather be comfortable and hear what's going on. I've had buddies die from a broken neck because of one and I've had buddies live because of one. The wife wears one and looks like tweedy bird. I always laugh but it's her choice and I respect it.

I am all for letting the rider choose. Don't have a thought one way or another. I ride dirt bikes more than the street. I wear a lot of protection. Goggles, helmet, chest protector, motocross boots, gloves, knee and elbow pads. I will admit I put on my helmet to ride over to bathroom. So, I wear one all the time even on the Big Dog.

If you think about it, the body is a pretty amazing thing. For the most part, if you break a limb, or a part of the body other than the head, it pretty much heals itself. But if you damage your brain in any way, chances are you're damaged for life. Therefore I choose to wear a helmet, but I do believe that the choice should be up to each individual after a certain age.

As an adult I still make some pretty shady decisions. Freedom is about having the choice. I choose none, and I totally accept the reality that can come from that choice. But Kansas is one of the states that still kinda clings to freedom, so roll on.....

MI just repealed the law couple years ago. Most people I know stopped wearing them or wear them a lot less. I am`50/50, depending on weather, less with heat, more with cold. Also, depends on where we are riding, less country two lanes /less traffic, more with highway and more traffic.

Bottom line, clearly safer with, but should be your choice. Also, your poll choice are not adequate.
