Gas tank

Happy New year to all !

I seem to have a little play in the rear gas tank mount. The bolts are tight.
If put my fingers under the rear of the tank I can move it up and down approx 1/4 inch.
I look under at the rear mounts and while lifting it looks like it is moving in the mounts or bushings . I have a 2003 BULLDOG . Any ideas?? :flag:

Either use a thicker rubber bushing or place enough large washers to take up the slack. The bolt will only go down so far. You need to use something to fill the void.

Thanks for the reply Brad. I removed the bolt and put 3 more flat washers and it did not help . I think the bushings must be wore out. Just not sure if they are even available .

You can sometimes find the large rubber bushings/grommets at your local hardware or tool store. pull an old one out and take it with ya to compare... just my 2cents.

Not familar with your year, but is it a split tank or single. If split you can get bushing most like at the local HD, just look for ones for Fat Bob, you may have to find someone in the HD shop that has a brain sell and knows what to look for and not just stand there asking what year HD.

If not, not sure where to get the bushing, just know I to replace mine and found them at HD shop for classic Fat Bob tanks.

OK , I removed the tank and found the 2 rear tank mount bushings split and falling apart.
The front ones are not as bad , but need replacing . I have pictures on my Iphone and will try and figure out how to post them.

I was able to post pictures in the Gallery." 2003 Bulldog Tank Mounts"

They look the same as mine just used in different configuration.

Only thing I can suggest it take one to HD shop and see if they got something to match (ask about Fat Bob one to start).

mrwiseguy,

If nothing else have an HD shop look for the rubber mount bushing for like a FXSTSB 95-97, or FLST 86-90 and if they have them compare yours with them and see if same.

Here is the one in Drag Specialities Fat Book that may fit.

http://www.dragspecialties.com/part...28,28,28,21,122,22,123,15&searchTerm=ds391241

If your HD parts dept is like so many I have dealt with recently, and just keep asking what HD model and year, try the ones listed above of ask if the have the DS Fat Book and if so, have them cross check DS391241.

On the attached, click on either one than look under the Make/Model/Year sub-menu tab and will give you a list of what HD model these fit. Yours may be different but it worth a try.

Good luck

I was able to get 4 replacement grommets for the gas tank . What a difference it made . Tank is secure with no movement or vibration.
