Gas tank

I need some help. I've had to have my tank repainted twice in less than a year (gas keeps getting under the paint at the bung), my question is why does my bike always come back with the tank 1"1/2 too far back from the front? Last time it was the painter this time the Harley dealership. Is there some trick to get it where it belongs. I've ended up having to take it to the repair shop to get it right. What the hell can't they see the tank is sitting on the seat! is there something I can do to fix it? :bang:

I think my Ridgeback tank has a rubber stopper of some sort that makes my tank fit snug in the slot near the seat, I bet you're missing that rubber piece. If you loosen the front bolts (only loose, don't remove) can you move the rear of the tank? If you have the rubber piece it shouldn't move.

Hope this helps.

No the rubber peice was there both times in fact the bike was sitting in the living room while the tank was off cause the Harley dealership didn't want to br responsible for the bike while it was being painted. And I cleaned the backbone so I saw it.

If the mastiff tank mounts like the 07 bulldog, they have the bolts in the wrong holes. The cam that locks the tank in place has three holes and to bolt on you only use 2.That would shift the tank back just about 1 1/2".If you need a pic, let me know.

You are letting someone that doesn't know how to take the tank off work on it. What they have done is incorrectly removed both bolts on the rotating arm that has the rubber tips. When reassembling, they are putting it back in the wrong holes. You will see 3 holes in this rotator piece. take both out and move the tank foward and put the bolts back in.
