at around 3500 to 4000 rpm in about any gear. Motor deosn't seem to be shaking any and all the motor mount bolts appear to be tight. It's fine untill those rpms and then once you shift it settles back down and is ok till you hit that rpm range again in the next gear.
any suggestions as to what to look for?
Thanks,
BBD

hey ed how the hecht are you????my buddys didnt do it,yet mine has done it since day one...to tell you the truth i have gotten used to it,course after i took it off and painted it and put it back on i see there is nothin else holdin tank on but 4 rubber mounted bolts,so the only other shakin has to come through the frame vibrating from the motor,so if everything is tight with the motor mounts and the tank mounts we can just chalk it up to another thing that happens to be 'THE NATURE OF THE BEAST" glad to see you made it out and took a ride up to carlisle............hope everything is well.....

Had this problem with an '05. Double check all your engine mounting bolts, all 4 of his bottom bolts were loose.

ed mine did this the first year I had it, dealer shortened the rubber mounts per bigdog, but still virbarted bad and made a noise, so I took a piece of car heater hose and cut it about 1 1/2 inch long, then cut it down the center did this to 2 pieces put one on top of the other (glued), then lifted gas tank and put over the top rail under tank just back far enough so you could not see and tightened tank back up FIXED.

thanks for all the suggestions guys! Much appreciated.
Yea I finally got a last second break in all that's happening to us in the Chrysler dealer world and took an instant stress relief ride.
Guess it's time to tear down my tank and see what's happening there and double check those bottom 4 mounting engine bolts.

Ed....the first year I had my bike...the tank rattled....I took it back to the dealer and the replaced all 3 tank bushings....no problems since then...but last Aug. when I was at Gas's crib....when we had my tank off while we were shrink wrapping all the connectors...I seen this:angry: this is what happened from the bad tank bushings......I taped over the spot and when I have my tank off next time...I will use that touch up paint that I used on my frame from were my old big radius bracket rubbed...

after everything was shrink wrapped....taped the rub mark for now...

I know how you feel BigBlueDog.....
Mine vibrates too on my 07 Bulldog. Didn't start until BDM sent me a replacement tank due to the liner collapsing in the original one. I have added shims behind the rubber bushings and replaced the rear one. When the tank is not completely full, it shakes like crazy.....

Ed -- happens buddy. I've replaced the tank bushings and added the rubber to the tunnel like Bruce recommends. Just a lot of shaking going on. After I saw you at Carlisie PA I got home to fine a forward tank bolt missing!

Thanks guys, great suggestions and resolutions. I'll be looking in to applying any and all once I find the actual issue.
All you guys are the best, no doubt!

BigBlueDog,
I resolved my tank shaking the day before I came to Kansas. I feel kinda stupid about it. BDM replaced the tank with a new one due to the liner collapsing. When I installed it there was slop side to side so I added a spacer to one side of the rubber mounts. Still vibrated. I pulled it and put a new rubber stop on the backbone where the tank slides into. Still vibrates.
I looked at the mounted underneath the tank and the rubber grommets are on correct so I pulled the two mounting bolts out and was going to adjust the height of the rear rubber stop. There are three holes in the mount and I was using the first 2 holes or the closest holes to the front tire. I slid the tank forward toward the handlebars and seen I could use the back two holes it I pushed the tank in place and held it. I put a Phillips screwdriver in the middle hole and pulled the tank up and used the back two holes. It is solid as a rock..Go figure. Even the back rubber mount area has no play now.
Took it out and no vibration..

While riding I notice my tank vibrates what looks like up and down about a quarter of an inch. Haven't really looked into but after reading this post I think I'll pull the tank....
BBD did you get yours taken care of?

thats exactly how I do mine - its a pain in the ass to get it on there but it is definitely more solid. I told someone else to do this in a different thread a few days ago.

I know I shouldn't find that funny, but...
Yeah it was! About 100 miles out of Miami I heard a "kling, klang, clink" and felt something smack my leg. I thought I had hit something in the road and it was kicked up by my front tire. Then another 50 miles down the road the same thing happens, another "kling, klang, clink" and once again I felt something hit my other leg. I started looking around the bike to make sure all the bits were there and everything seemed fine. Then I caught a glimpse of my tank bouncing up and down with the road, and no sooner than I thought to my self "OHH SHIT" I hit a big bump and my tank goes flying into my lap. We pulled over and started looking for a hardware store, but it was the middle of the night and nothing was open. I tried to bungie it back onto my frame but that didn't hold up for shit so I just straped it to my legs and rode victoriously into Daytona! :whoop:

What a great idea - I'm doing it next time I pull the tank..

Check your brackets

I had an electrical issue in which I had to remove my tank and found the bottom tank mounting bracket was in place but cracked at the bends. I have a two piece tank (04' Pitbull) and lately was making a lot of noise. I was really getting frustrated, but now she sound great. If I didnt have to remove the tank, I would have never known the problem below was making all my mounting bolts loosen and rattle. Heading to Runnamucca next weekend.
