Gas Tank & MPG 2005 Pitbull

I have a split tank (aprox 4.5 gal). Anyone consider fabricating a larger, over-sized gas tank? Just throwing around some ideas.

A little background: Previous owner said he used to get 20 mpg. I ran it with the choke on too long, did NOT realize he'd left it on the first week after I bought it. Changed the plugs and oil after 100 miles and obvious rich running conditions. Still seems to be running horrible mpg. Going to check the carb, jets, fuel lines, etc, just in case the junk build up is old in addition to my recent SNAFU.

Yeah you should be getting atleast 40 mpg

The 05's came with restrictor plates in the manifold and a super E carb. This shouldn't cause a loss in fuel mileage, but it definitely doesn't let the 117 reach its maximum hp. If the previous owner hasn't done it yet, I would recommend switching to a super G or Mikuni carb before you get super involved with the present carb. These bikes aren't known for great fuel mileage, but 20 mpg is really low. I get 45-46 mpg hwy with a 45mm Mikuni.

You should get at least 40 mpg, but if it is jetted right, high 40's is what most will get. My 03 was getting mid 50's.

Stock carb, as far as I've been told. Haven't opened it up yet. After-market exhaust and air intake filter is all I know about so far. I think it's definitely running too low. Thank you all!

It should be stamped on the side of the carb just below the enrichner. S&S Super "E" or "G".

You should get at least 40 mpg, but if it is jetted right, high 40's is what most will get. My 03 was getting mid 50's.

I agree. I never got anything over 40-45 and that was in a good day. It really depends on how you ride.

if you do change to a super "G", pull the spacers from between the jugs and the intake and get them milled at a shop ( unless you are a machinist) to match the port size on the jug. this will allow you to use the same intake and replace the carb with the "G" without having to find a different intake.
