My '05 Mastiff has about 22,000 miles on it and the threaded gas caps had become too tight to use any more due to the plastic threads swelling and rounding with age. Seemed like a pretty easy fix to order a new pair of caps from Big Dog. Pretty easy so long as you don't care if the match. Left side came polished stainless just like my original and right came polished/chromed aluminum and about 1/8" lower. Certainly fixed my problem with caps fitting good again though and confirmed that the issue was with the cap instead of the paint saver (tank insert). Contacted Big Dog, and they're not going to have chromed aluminum lefts sides till their 79 cap inventory of old stainless ones is gone. Also, according to Big Dog, their thread pattern is slightly different from everyone elses afermarket caps. Cap guts don't look interchangeable either. Looks like the only option for matching caps is to buy new aftermarked paint savers and caps.
