2001 Boxer ........gas will not transfer over in to left side tank when filling. Checked cross over tube and flows freely. Gas cap will not come off on left tank. Is it supposed to? Thanks For Help In advance

Sounds like the vent is plugged up in the left cap. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the left cap, left hand threads.

Left cap is reverse thread. You have to fill both sides of tank, crossover tube will not fill other tank but will equalize both sides over time. Check threads here, on caps for more info on fixes.

By the way, if you are having trouble with swelling on the threads (from ethanol), BBChopper (this forum) makes replacement metal threads for your caps so you won't ever have that problem again. They work perfectly. I got a set from him a couple of weeks ago.

Left came off easy but right is stuck. This is a work on progress. I bought her on a Friday. Got to ride about 60 miles on Sunday and she went to hell. Previous owner abused her bad. But rest assured she will be pristine by October for Thunder Beach in Panama City Beach. Oh yeah any one have a manual? That would be a great help.

The left cap on mine is not vented. If it were when the bike is on the kick stand the gas would run out of it. The vented cap is on the right tank and there is a small vent hose between the tanks close to the top. It is under the dash. Check to make sure a piece of you're tank liner has not come loose and fallen across you're tank feed holes. Good luck.

X2 on the vent crossover. FWIW, on my Pit I put in a t-connector between both tanks and ran the vent line to the midframe downtube and down to the ground. That way any overflow gas goes under and away from the bike. Just my .02

Plus one, also I took both caps apart on my 01 Pitbull.
pop the retaining ring ,clean lube the ratchet, reassemble, now both caps ratchet when tight, and are easily rmoved

just to verify.....on early model pitbulls, the vented cap is supposed to be on the right side opposite the petcock, correct?
