Gas cap

Is there a GOOD gas cap for these bikes. 07 K9. I had to break one today to get it off...had to go into panic mode and scraped up an old one I had here. Patched it up enough to work for tomorrow's funeral that I have to ride in. Would love to find one that isn't junk.

If ya pull the paint saver you can use a standard HD cap. Paint saver limits you tho. If you got a machine shop buddy, the inner threads can be made outta aluminum. They wont stick.

It was a issue with my 07 as well. The 08 has never had a problem. I like the idea of having one made out of aluminum.

I'd buy an aluminum threaded one right now if someone had it

That does nothing to fix the plastic threads from sticking

I agree that aluminum threads are the only way to go. Whether it's a new cap to fit the paint-saver or a harley style cap, aluminum will be less of a headache. The ethanol in modern gas swells plastic. They become a tight sumbitch and will produce a lot of profanity.

If you are talking about my response to your post, contact the seller and ask. I don't see why Sheldon Coleman would invest money to alter the size of the gas cap.
I've had my decorative cover for over a decade and haven't even had to retighten the set screws. The only mod I made was to drill a slight indentation into my oem gas cap to better countersink the tip of the set screws.

If Im not mistaken, @BBChopper made my aluminum threaded piece. Not sure if he still messing with them or not??

Gas Cap

Project Gas Cap almost done ready for powder coat GLOSS BLACK. Also cut a paint saver ring to help protect the paint and set off the Black Cap...:2thumbs: Cut this out of 1/8th" plate got it down to .028 at the edge just need to finish polishing it up and put it all back together.

Just an FYI, the new gas caps that HDM are selling are better quality that the stock ones. The ethanol doesn't make them swell as bad as the stock ones.

At some point in time HDM was selling the Tri-Bar I believe it was called. Harry’s kinda reminds me of it. I bought one but didn’t like it. It’s laying around here somewhere!
