Gas Cap

Hello,

I have an '04 Chopper DT. I read somewhere on this site that there was an easy repair for the gas cap (mine doesn't vent- so my bike will vapor lock). Currently, I'm riding with the cap loosened about 1-1.5 turns with no problem. However, if I tighten the cap down all the way, my bike will vapor lock after about 5-8 miles. I did a search but could'nt find anything. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Remove the guts within the middle of the threaded part. You will be fixed.
is that the part that looks like its held in with a snap ring? (inside the threaded piece)
do I mess with the black piece that is attached to the cap itself with an allen screw? I did take it apart and it has some kind of a (pin?) in there, almost like a key way or check ball or something like that.
thanks!

i understand now. surferdude, look at the after and before pics. just take an 18mm wrench or crescent wrench and unscrew the inner portion of the cap and leave it out.(kinda of like taking out the plug) what you will then have is a hollow threaded piece that is still attached to the cap itself. so you will still be able to screw the cap into the tank.

thank you Barhopper and V, u guys rock!
