Gas cap getting tight, WTF???

In the last two yrs I notice when ever I have to grab fuel on the road that has ethonal in it, my gas cap is so damn tight to remove the next time I fuel up. Has anyone else had this problem? My 03 Chopper gas cap has either plastic or composit threads. Is something in the ethanol swelling it.

If you search this site, there are threads that explain gas cap thread issues. Older caps swell up due to ethanol in gas. You can sand them, use anti-sieze compound or get replacements. I tried the fixes but ended up ordering replacements. Landmark (original mfgr. of Big Dog gas caps) now uses threads that won't swell.

Just talked to Land Mark Motorcycle parts the supplier of gas caps for Big Dog. The replacement cap is $25. I ordered 2.

all you need is to wipe vasoline on the caps threads.

I used a red scotch brite roloc disc on an air tool to lightly sand down all around the threads. Worked great.

I have a 03 Chopper and that is the original tank the gas cap on my tank is the Maltese Chrome Cross with the rubber thread on or might be plastic and I have no problem with it tightening after I put it on to gas up. I snug it and next time I get gas comes right off and in NJ good luck trying to find fuel w/ out ethonal in it all is 10% ethonal gas here in NJ. I got my cap from Drag Speacialties my spelling stinks I don't know if I spelled that right but you got my drift. You want me to take a picture of my gas cup I will was like $30 and is bad ass looks nice
