Gas cap cover works great!

Im sure others have experienced the uncomfortable feeling of not being able to get their gas caps off. I finally got tired of fighting with it and bought Kromett gas cap covers. They come in pairs so I gave one to my friend. They are made of a good heavy metal and a good fit and finish. They are held on with three set screws. So I placed it on my cap (while still on tank) and sinched the set screws down. That cut a slight circle into the sides of the cap. I removed the cover and drilled indentations into the sides of the gas cap for the set screws to seat into. Used red LockTite and was done in about 20 minutes. No allen wrench is supplied. Ill carry my allen with me just to ensure I never get stuck at a gas station again.

Thanks all. Just wanted to help others as I have been helped. I think they were about $25 for a set of two at JP. It has solved my problems.
I originally would spooge a little vasoline on the plastic threads of my gas cap to make it easier to turn. It did work, but I would forget and be right back to fighting with the gas cap again. So this should be my permanent fix. Hope it helps yall too.

Thanks for the info...will have to look into those. I've had to carry one of these kitchen round rubber jar openers in my pouch to get my caps off. I feel a little silly but it works.

I look at that and think of the pain I would have been in when I got rear ended in July-- I was still in the bike basically straddling the top of that tank just about where the cap is -- those spikes would have been right into the family jewels -- no thanks.

Besides -- never had trouble getting the cap off the K-9 -- But with 56K miles I was always taking it off! never had time to harden up -- my solution RIDE MORE
