Thats my concern, the born date - just got one that was produced in June 2014, - Looks good. I think the problem with the 300 cobras were early and mid 2013

It might be worth looking into before you buy. A lot of times these sales are of old stock, tires that have been sitting in a warehouse for years. They might even look ok when you put them on the bike but six months later you may notice cracks appearing. Ask me how I know. lol

I have bought tires from these guys in the past and the tires were the year i bought them with the born on date. Haven't had any problems with the tires!!! Knock on wood

I went back to the Avon Cobra's. Got about 1000 miles on the rear and 3000 on the front so far. Built mid 2014. Had 2 Metzler rear tires and only got 4000 miles out of each of them. At 4000 miles I was showing cord on the Metzlers. Only got 6000 miles out of the Metzler front tire. Will see how the Avon's hold up.

Its all about proper alignment air pressure
I have to disagree with you on this one Curtis. The Metzlers wear twice as fast as the Avon's. I was getting 7500 miles out of the rear Avon Venoms. I had three Avon Cobra rear tires but the tread splice kept splitting. Thats when I went with the Metzlers. Two of the Metzlers and now I'm back to the Avon Cobra's. I've had three front tires...Three Avons and one Metzler. I'm back to Avon Cobra's on the front now also. I was getting over 10,000 miles out of the Avon front tire and only got 6000 out of the Metzler. I don't do much interstate riding, most of my riding is back roads. The Metzlers do stick to the road better, thats why they wear faster, softer compound. You wouldn't think there would be as much difference with the front tires, being that the front tires are Bias tires and not radials. As far as alignment and air pressure....I'm centered and air pressure is correct.

I would think it's the different road surfaces in your area. You don't seem to be getting as good milage as I am with the metz. I got 10,000 miles out of my rear venoms and changed out my front at 17,000 miles due to dry rot. I went through 4 rear cobras due to joint splice splits and haven't looked back. If they've fixed this issue, then I would go back because they're cheaper in price than the metz. I say bring back the venoms.... :D

I don't see how you guys get that kind of mileage out of your tires. I admit I do beat my tires a little and we have a lot of curvy back roads here. 17,000 miles out of a front tire and it was dry rotted  I have put on 6 rear tires and 3 front tires in 30,000 miles

Replaced rear tire at 7,500 miles...Avon (Venom)
Replaced rear tire at 14,500 miles..Avon (Cobra)
Replaced rear tire at 17,500 miles..Avon (Cobra)
Tread splice seperating on Avon Cobra's
Replaced rear tire at 18,900 miles..Metzler (ME880)
Replaced rear tire at 23,170 miles..Metzler (ME880)
Replaced rear tire at 27,556 miles..Avon (Cobra)

Replaced front tire at 10,100 miles....Avon
Replaced front tire at 20,300 miles....Metzler
Replaced front tire at 26,000 miles....Avon

So far this set of Avon Cobra's are holding up. Time will tell. How many miles are you getting out of your Metzlers? The price of the Metzlers is the reason I went back to the Avon's. The Avon Venom's not coming back.

So far I'm on my first set of metz on both bikes and the oldest set has more than 3000 miles and still looks new. The second bike has 1500 miles on it and still looks new. I do a lot of freeway riding (76 miles a day back and forth to work).

Yeah sad that the venoms wont be back, loved those...:2thumbs:

So which tires are you talking about?

Let us know what the dates are when you get them.

A while back I posted the dates Avon claimed they changed the compounds.

Avon applies new technology to boost performance on 250/40VR18 & 300/35VR18 Cobra AV72

MELKSHAM, UK, 10 June., 2014 – Avon Tyres has announced updated tread compounds to its 250/40VR18 & 300/35VR18 Cobra AV72 tyres, using new developments in technology to deliver the highest quality products to its customers.

The new technology is set to further improve and enhance the tyres’ durability, boosting their overall performance.

The update in compounds took place in September 2013 – 300/35VR18 and December 2013 – 250/40VR18

Our Cobra range is aimed at the power cruiser/touring/custom market with these 2 sizes being popular on American Ironhorse, Big Bear Chopper, Big Dog, Victory and Steed Motorcycles.

After my Metzler had a blow out (not a worn tire), I'm going back to an Avon. $205.99 shipped from Rocky Mountain ATV. Ordered just now and says it will be here Monday. Hope it is newer stock. I'll check the born on date and post it here.
