FYI: Recall for Ridgeback rear wheel

The replacement wheel looks the same, the potential crack area is simply thicker. Would be very hard to see in a pic.

why is the wheel cracking? I've got a pitbull, & yea I read the SB, but is it due that the ridgeback has a wider wheel, do you think all ridgids will be an issue?? where is it cracking??
Eric we have the same bike/wheels. If you look at Seatmakers Sig, you will see the wheels being recalled. It looks like a slight design flaw, our wheels are a TOTALLY different design. I think ours is fine. BTW, I dont think any BDMs ran anything bigger than a 300mm in 2005, so the wheels should be any wider than ours either.

Thanks Shredder. I guess this would be a good time to powder coat the wheels if im going to.

Has anyone else put in for the wheel. I have been waiting on the backorder since the recall was put into effect. sounds like only a couple guys have gotten the wheels replaced. Just wondered...

Yes, I actually got my put on last Thursday. They did threaten me, however, that they were going to send my new wheel back because I had not gotten up there quick enough to get it replaced...

That is because the dealer has to pay for it up front then they get credited when the old one goes back.

I'm not sure I understand the logic behind that, but they still made a boatload of money off me when I bought a new tire, clutch cable, and oil cooler before I left...

I got mine right away. As soon as I got the letter in the mail about the recall, I called my dealer "Gateway Bigdog", and they already had them in stock ready to install.

I got mine replaced here in Houston at Mancusos. It took about two months to get the wheel in. They had 18 on order and got two in. So they are shipping them everywhere.
Razor did mine and he swung by to talk about it. He said that out of all the 05 Ridgebacks sold in the country they had three come back in with cracked rims. From that Bigdog decided not to take any chances. He explained that where the cracks were occurring the rim was about 3/8 of an inch thick like any rim would be. Now the entire rim as about an inch thick. He smiled and said ain't no way you can crack that.
They also told me nows the time to change the tire if you want. The labor to remove and reinstall is free since they have to remove the wheel for recall. I was fine with my tire so i declined.
One other thing I did was I quizzed Razor hard about my rear hubs. I remembered that early on Bigdog recalled our front and rear hubs. They were coming apart. They went in under recall and took them apart and put lock-tite on the bolts and put them back together. Razor smiled real big and shook his head yes...and responded by saying I don't put any wheels on these bikes unless I build the wheel up myself. I took your wheel apart when it arrived and put the lock-tite on and built it up. That kid knows his stuff. He's been sent up there to Witchita quite a bit to sit in on a lot of this stuff.

Why does one dealer need 18 Ridgeback rear wheels? No wonder I have been waiting for 3 months for a wheel and one not in sight!!!

Jake,
LOL Mancusos had 18 people come in for the recall. They only got 2 wheels out of the 18.
Did you put yours in for one?? If you need to come here for service we got a big comfy couch you can crash on... LOL The only problem i see is the 2- month wait. LOL

I ordered mine when this got posted 4 months ago!!!!:bang:

And still on BO !!!

They announced the recall two months before that so that they could gear up on production. And still nothing...

Not that I am worried about it...

...I could end up with a nice new shiney bike out of the deal if I have to wait long enough!:roll::roll:

Ain't that the truth!!:roll: I'm surprised you've been waiting that long. I wonder how many wheels total they are replacing. Problem now is one nice shiney back rim and one not so shiney front rim. Hell i think they should change em both!:roll:

Hope you get your wheel soon bro!
