FWIW speedo fix with switch of the battery

I know this is a common problem, but wanted to show how it is so true.

Every one that is not a noob knows how the battery greatly affects other items on our BDM's, end of last year (shortly after gettin my K9) my speedo started effin up, some times it worked, some times it wouldn't bike started with zero issues, kept it on the tender, etc. I decide that it was time for a new battery just in case (uncle owns a parts store and it was cheap ) , did this and no more speedo problem thus far.

BTW - There is a software upgrade for the EHC that will address this problem. Basically when you hit the start button the voltage could fall enough to affect the operation of the speedometer. The new software causes power to the speedometer to cycle off then back on after you start the bike. This fixes the freezing speedometer issue.

Just go into the dealer and have them load it up I am asssuming.

Only thing is, the new software download for the speedo fix just moves the problem to the headlight circuit. I have had a couple customers that had been running a HID kit for 6 months plus, get the software update, and the ballast doesn't see enough voltage for it to power up and won't work from there out.

I think all the accessories, like the Speedo, Tach, & headlight should not run the the EHC at all.

yep...I had mine done last summer:up: and the speedo will sweep twice as Night Train said.....no problems at all...

My 09 has that built in.The dealer told me to wait til the speedo cycles up and down before starting the bike to prevent speedo issues.I found that when hitting the start button the speedo cycles again.I guess he knew about the issue but not the fix.
