future of Big Dog bikes?

Now that Intrust Bank has taken control over BD and BDP no longer in operation, i'm beginning to worry about the future for our bikes.

It seems to be getting harder and harder to find parts (ebay or otherwise), are other folks seeing this?

I know its blasphemous, but long-term, does it make more sense to sell our BDs and switch? I really LOVE my Mastiff, so I dont WANT to, but figured this would be a good topic for the forum. Perhaps a master list of every URL that sells BD parts would be useful to the community?

cheers,

Yes, just sell it. Buy a Harley so you can look and feel like everybody else. :loony:

Our Big Dogs will have parts available for a long long time Mister. S&S is still in business, Baker is still in business, and many vendors on here are producing the maintenance parts. I won't sell my Big Dog for anything, but think its value will dip and then eventually climb as it is a huge part of American Motorcycle history. That being said, I couldn't give a rats a$$ what its worth, I didn't buy it as a financial investment but as an investment in my mental and physical health.

That's just my $0.02 worth though.

Here's the deal. They are a machine. They will break. When they do you have the ultimate guide to fix it.. This website. If you can't find a part anywhere, there is a chance someone here has one laying in their garage. I'm with the rest...who cares? I'll keep and fix the Dog as long as I breathe. If I can't find a part, I'll make one!!! jmo

I don't ride mine anymore, I won't need parts for it. I will always have a pristine Big Dog for my investment.:willy_nilly:

Does anybody know what parts Kansas Motorcycle Works uses? Haven't seen proper pictures yet. Engine is SS, gearbox Jim's, but handlebars electronics etc. They may be one source in the future? If they survive...
Did any German members go to Essen bike show to see the bikes??

I believe they were built with mostly BDM parts. I watched a couple of them go together. Some of the bikes have used parts on just to get the bike finished. I don't think they will be around for much longer....call it a feeling or a hunch. But I've been known to be wrong. They are some nice looking scoots though.

They have been out of business/production for almost four years I haven't seen a shortage of options yet. bigdogpartskingpin has had better prices and service than BDPP ever had!

I think I am going to try this next. Should not have any electrical issues, frame will never break, better gas mileage simple to work on and you won't see another one like it at bike night. And look who's name is on it. I could blame John for all my problems!

I think you are right Frank, as we age it gets harder and harder to throw our leg over the seat, and this is a nice step thru option:whoop::lol:

I hate to beat to beat a dead horse, but here we go. Take it from a guy who has done nothing a for living but keep these things running since 1998.....YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! Damn near every part on these bikes are still being produced. There are alternatives for the very few that are not. The only possible problem I can think of (in the distant future) are the hand control PC boards, and from what I've heard, Derek has a ton of them, and if those run out, someone will come up with an alternative. (Someone needs to anyway, they are the bain of these bikes)C.A.Jones V-Twin | Custom Builds, Parts & Service

What experience do you have with the random shut off issue that is discussed so often here?

Well said, Doug. We have plenty of PCB switches in stock. Any other hard to find items are either in production now, or at the top of the "re-engineer" list. We are constantly sourcing parts and suppliers for future support of these bikes and we're not going anywhere.

I'm not on this site very often, (too damn busy, but I'm stuck at home with pneumonia), so I'm not exactly sure what issue you're talking about. As far as a random shutoff issue, in my experience, most of the ones we've seen have been EHC related.
