fuel issue???

On my way to work yesterday I filled my bike with gas and drive about 40 miles. Got to a stop sign and it just died on me like I turned the key off. Went to start it back up and it started fine and ran fine for another three miles and it did the same thing on the exit ramp. Now a day later I cracked the throttle hard and it died again. No sputtering or anything! Checked my plugs coil battery and ignition, no problems. I'm thinking this might be a fuel issue but it isn't sputtering at all. Any ideas?

This has happened to a bunch of us. it seems to me that the gas cap is not venting properly. Unscrew the gas -- Blow thru the underside of the cap to check. if nothing comes out, unscrew the white piece and throw it away. check it again and you will be able to blow thru it

If the gas cap has a white inner section inside the outer threaded ring then you can unscrew it to open the cap vent for normal venting. The cap was an EPA cap I think and had the inner vent block installed from the factory.

My gas cap does not have any white inserts. And I can blow through it as well, so that must be venting properly. I looked it my gas tank for any debris from the liner possibly peeling off and it doesn't look like that is the case, although my gas looked green like antifreeze? Don't know if that is normal

Doesn't sound normal, maybe take the petcock off to see if it is clogged. maybe the liner is coming off where you can't see it

Maybe a bad tank of gas, I would drain it if it looks like anti-freeze

The green look is from the liner itself. No need to discard a tank of gas. Start at the tanks and work your way to the carb. Check everything you can and then go to the s&s site and download the carb setup sheets. You may just have an out of adjustment accelerator pump???

Had a problem that was very similar to that and it ended up being the needle valve.

Doesn't hurt to drop the bowl and give everything a good douchin' from time to time.

I drained the gas out, and it still has a tint of green to it. I also took off the petcock and there was a bunch of pieces stuck to the petcock screen? I still have to check the float bowl for debris, but I would imagine those pieces are not a good sign and probably the issue?

If the engine shuts down like turning OFF the key then it may be an electrical issue.

Is your Mastif EFI?

If it happens again, check to see what the EHC LEDs are doing and make note of it before you turn the key OFF or press START again. Coast to the side of the road in neutral and remove the seat and write down the info. Later...press start to see if the engine restarts and take a note.

The EHC and or ECM(EFI) may have a power interuption condition happening.

I had the same conditions of shutdown as you are experiencing and after many shutdowns in one day it was later diagnosed as LOOSE CRIMPs on the small wires on both battery terminals. The connectors were replaced and/or recrimped and never had another shutdown in the last 10K miles.

Can you take a picture? Were the pieces stuck to the screen small and green? Like mentioned before, the green is the color of the tank liner. As long as it's in tact, there are no issues. If you have green particles on your petcock, it's time to get your tank re-lined. I've had great success with Caswell Motorcycle tank liner. Easy to follow instructions and a lot cheaper than paying a shop to do it.
