You could drill and tap fittings into the side of the tank and connect a clear hose to them. Then you will be able to see the level of the tank.

Can't you just install one of those Briggs and Stratton Black Plastic Gas Caps with the gauge in the top, if you bend it to the side enough to clear the tunnel?

Was wondering the same thing. I know it takes away from the "Freedom/No Worries" thing but sometimes it's nice to know how much gas you have.
