fuel filter

Hello All ! I Finally got to get the dust off the bike today. After about 25 mins of riding the dog starts to stall. I pull to the side and look down at the clear in line fuel filter ,and it is only quarter full! I loosen the gas tank cap nothing happens. I tap on the fuel filter and see it start to fill? I put a little pressure on the side of the glass and watch as it fills !! WHAT THE HECK?? The dog fires up and I make home!! I get to the garage and sure enough Fuel filter is low again. I press on the side of the fuel filter and sure enough it fills!!! This time I notice a couple of drops of fuel come out of the filter as well.. Has anyone ever heard of this before??? :bang:

I noticed that with a filter my dog used to have fuel problems, I took it off and shit canned the filter and no more problems. But that is me, others on here use a filter and other don't. Just saying

I have a Pingle on mine and no problems although I changed all my lines out to 6AN so maybe thats the difference.

I run the Pingle filter also with no problems.

Just had another thought. I wonder if the ethanol fuel is causing problems with your fuel lines, causing them to restrict the flow. Anyway like I said just a thought, it makes my gas cap swell.

I also have been running the Pingel for a couple years now and no problems!:2thumbs: I think those glass filters don't have enough flow...

Agreed Indeed!!!!

The glass ones aren't worth shit. I had one a while back that left me stuck on the side of the road. I noticed no fuel in it (filter) with a full tank of gas. I unplugged the line from the tank and the gas flowed, I took the filter off and the gas flowed, I put it back on and nothin'! Left it right where I was parked and haven't had one since then.

I opted not to run one at all just for the sake of not dealing with the BS but lately I've been thinking of giving the Pingle a try but not to sure yet.

This site is awseome , in less then 12 hours I have great insight. thank you all ! I think I will order a Pingle and give it a try. I also think I will go ahead and drop the fuel valve to check the internal screen as well! Thank you all again I will get back with the results. I with you on the shitty fuel. Had same issue a while back bike stored in a climated controlled environment for about 2 mos. Fired up first attempt ran about 10 miles petered out. Fired back up a few minutes later ran another 2-3 miles then for about 7 miles it spit and sputtered. After that fueled up no problems. If not riding regularly and storing for a bit I would suggest a stabilizer and a full tank.

Yea I think you guys that have to store your bikes for long periods I would recommend a fuel stabilizer and run it through your carb before you put her down for the winter nap.

What they said... Fuel can varnish up if stored for long period without stabilizer.

The petcock has a screen. Others are running aftermarket inline filters. Not necessary imo

Well I think I found part of my problem. I removed the Fuel line,filter and petcock.
I split the fuel line and found the inside dry and cracking! The o-rings on each end of the glass fuel filter we not good either. I am not sure if it is age or Ethenol but something seems to be breaking down the rubber. It is a 2003 so it definetly is time for all new. I have some pictures and will try to figure out how to post them . I work in the Marine business so I do know this ethanol can due some damage. Thanks again for all the input! I will keep you all posted.
