Any one have a suggestion before I buy a new Speedo. Speedo is frozen at 40mph and the mile count does not work. Checked all connections and it has power? I have an 04 chopper with a new EHC.

Thanks Old Dog

Old Dog, contact your local BDM dealer or BDM direct and see what your options are. Maybe Nelson can hook you up with a new one if you have to actually buy one.
You can contact Nelson thru the site here.

If you replaced your EHC maybe it's not compatiable with your original speedo?

I would contact BDM directly... the speedo is a common problem... they may help you out with it. Even though you're out of warrenty.

I've gone through 9 so far on my 05. BDM has been good about replacing them. There is a recall to change the mount to a much heaver and wider one. Seems vibration has been an issue.
On the newer bikes it can be fixed with a laptop. Alicat's wasn't working here in Daytona and Olmstr logged into his EHC and fixed it.

Hope BD fixes you up.

Later,
Ray

Just courious....Did the speedometer work before you changed the ecu? I have been having problems with my 04 as well. However it goes through the calibration checks when powered up. The odometer always functions properly. While riding the needle will drop after time between 15 and 25 mph. CHecked all wiring connections, found no indicators, went ahead and applied dielectric to each plug...I ran a calibration check and found that the pulse count was low. 98207 pulses in a known 2 mile stretch. Should be 104000.
Installed a new speedometer sensor in the tranny last night. Now to go out and calibrate it, and see what happens......... It would be interesting to know what you find out with yours............

So did the new speedo trans sender make the speedo perform better? I would suspect the sender as well. If it doesn't put out a pulse signal at low speeds then you would see the speedo dropout and a low calibration count. Not sure how the sender mounts in the tranny case but if the air gap to the teeth of the pickup ring is too large then usually same results.

is there anything specific you should for if you want to go for an aftermarket speedo? mine is a bag of shit so I'm considering it - maybe a digital something or other

I had a problem with my speedo and had to order a new one...they sent the speedo with a new sensor....turns out the sensor was the only thing that was bad...At least now I have an extra speedometer if this one goes KaaPut!
