So I picked up Five Five's old stock lower fork slider and axle. Redid my forks following Gas Man's How to and every other thread on Forks. The problem I've run into is mounting the tire. As many of you know the front axle changed according to the lower legs that were installed. In 03 the axle is threaded 3/4s of the way and is unscrewed to remove it from the front wheel hub. Newer axles have a bolt in the end of them.
When I removed my 2003 axle, the throttle side spacer slid right off as it should however the caliper side spacer is still attached to the end of the axle. Does this spacer come off or is it fixed to the end of the axle? I'll Post pics if need be tonight.
They are different metals the spacer is aluminum but the axle is steel. From the inside it looks to be threaded and if so is either red loctited or seized.
So does this spacer come off or do I buy a new one? and what are the dimensions as they are different lengths.
