Front fork tubes

I am installing new fork tubes on 04 soft tail I purchased from wildsteedworx for $98 a pair including freight. We're here in 3 days. I like. Does anyone know if the small damper spring goes on top of the damper or bottom. Looks like it should go on top. I see no purpose on the bottom . Would appreciate any help.

I'm going to take a wild guess... assume the damper is how you have that hex bolt at the bottom of the leg? This separates the leg from the tube, right? And this hex screws up the damper rod inside the bottom of that leg, yes? This might be the spring that slides up the damper?

It goes something like this: Oh look, my legs came and I am holding a clean one in hand right now. I lay it down so as not to nick any surface along that tube. I now pick up my damper rod and my little spring. I drop the spring down the damper rod, pick up the fork, drop the damper rod down the new fork tube. The rod flies out the hole and bounces off the spring.

Oh look, I forgot the spring washer or it eats at the rod and those touch points. Oh, no shit? Does not come with a washer? Then, that's the design of so many parts inside said fork assembly.

If I put the spring in first, then put the damper in and bolt it down it looks to me like the spring does nothing. There is a small spring built into the bottom of the lower leg that I didn't remove. Not sure how it comes out. I dropped the damper and there was about 1/2" of spring movement. I 'm confused?

Sorry. Scratch my last post. There is no spring in the lower tubes. The spring I was thinking about, came built into the lower part of the new tubes I bought. But if I install the spring and then the damper tube with it's tapered sleeve, the damper tube bolts solid to the bottom of the damper tube and the spring slides up and down the damper tube and does nothing?????

44022 ~ See the small square block inside the larger square drawing? So 44022 means, my spring goes up this way, now do what you want with the damper tube, meaning... "It only assembles one way" comma look at your generic damper and spring; that's how I mentioned if a washer was there?

No washer? Then run the spring up the long tube. This is how your generic insides might look like.

ANYONE, running heavy oil in the front forks??

I drained the piss water and went back with 50 weight racing oil. WOW what a difference, not hard but firm
handles better in hard curves. This is the same thing I done to my Sportster....... love the handling.
