I been thinking about tearing my bike down myself and installing the new top end gasket kit, I am a little nervous about having someone I don't really know work on my bike! I am a pretty good mechanic, have re built many engines over the years, just never a V Twin motor! I looked up Raywoods post on how to do a top end rebuild but all the pics are gone! I am one of those guys that a pic says a thousand words, I am sure some of you can relate! Also I was wondering if there are any special tools needed to do this? Obviously I have no manuel for the engine!:D

That would have been great, If I would have noticed this earlier that's what I would do, I will definitely do that next time! What do you think Curtis, if I tear into this thing myself do you think I could get it done in a day? Do I need any special tools? etc........:D

If I didn't have so many packages to ship last minute on Monday I would leave Monday, stay at your place Tuesday and rebuild the top end for you and head back out Wednesday but there is no way I can get out of here before Tuesday.

Curtis I really appreciate the offer, and you are always welcome at my house, that would have been really cool, I am sure I will be in need of some professional help so if your available by phone that will be great! Thanks again Curtis!

Not sure if its the same on these as dirt bikes but shouldn't you replace the piston rings once they are out of the cylinder so they can reseat properly? With dirt bikes I always replaced the rings if I took the cylinder completely off.

I talked to Curtis and he said that it was important to make sure the rings were in the same position when you put the piston back in the cylinder, he never said anything about changing the rings.
