Help ! ! ! ! ! First off I searched the forum and did not find the info. I am looking for. My 02 Pitbull suddenly has no front brakes, I checked the resorvoir and found it was very very low on fluid but did not see any signs of a leak anywhere. I attempted to bleed the system with no luck, the cylinder is just barely spitting any fluid. I cant find any name on the master cylinder anywhere but I am thinking this must be the problem. Anyone know what it is, The caliper is a PM so one would assume the master cylider is as well but Im not sure. I am kinda in a bing because I am leaving for Daytona Sunday morning and dont have time to order and wait on the parts so I am trying to find them locally, Is there a Harley assembly that will replace the PM one? Any help would be appreciated.

So your brake lever goes all the way to the grip? If you are sure there aren't any leaks, I would try bleeding again. Bleeding these sometimes take a bit more time than usual, especially if using Dot 5 fluid and very especially if it sucked in alot of air.:D

However, you should be able to rebuild your MC pretty easy. Drop the MC off the bars and is should be marked with the size 9/16s or 5/8s then go to the HD shop and buy a MC rebuild kit for the correct size and you should be back on the road in no time. The rebuild kits aren't very expensive at all.

Or you can just go and buy a new MC (correct size). I've seen them in the JP catalogs made by Custom Chrome. Again, your HD shop should have them too as your 2002 used regular HD controls. Just get the correct size.

Hope this helps.

oh yeah, post a pic of what your controls/MC looks like, I'm sure it's just like mine.

I don't get how a faulty MC explains very low level of brake fluids with no leak. You're also better off putting the new brake fluid in from the bleed nipple (yes Dave I said nipple!) with some sort of pump / syringe rather than through the MC and bleeding.

Thanks guys, Yes it does have Dot5 fluid and I used a pump to pump it through the " NIPPLE " hu hu hu He said Nipple lol. I am going to pull it off and go to HD and see if they have one. After a little more inspection I believe it may have been leaking at the copper washer where the line fitting goes into the caliper. Thanks again LDO and guys for all your help.

My K9 does the same thing over the winter in storage. No signs of a leak, but the resivoir is empty and no front brakes. I put a small tube on the nipple then put the tube in a clean plastic pop bottle so I can reuse the fluid and bleed away.:bang:

Ok when I tore down the front brake master cylinder I found the fluid had gelled up in the resorvoir, ports and even in the bore. I think the previous owner must have used something other than DOT5 fluid so when I added fluid I guess the mix caused the gelling. Anyways if you have a older dog with the Harley style front mastercylinder and it has a 5/8 bore size then your Harley part# is 45072-96C. I will post a pic a little later to help identify it. Thanks to everyone for all the help, You guys have a lot more info to offer than any of my local bike shops. As soon as they hear Bigdog its like they get scared or something and almost immediately their response is NO were not going to have anything like that lol.

Ok guys ignore the part number on that last post, The drag specialties book listed that part # as being a 5/8 bore kit but that is wrong it is actually a 11/16 bore and will not work. Trust me it will not fit I tried LOL. Anyways I will post the correct info as soon as I get it and it is installed and I am 100 % sure it is right!

OK we figured it out, just a wrong part#. The correct part # for the front wheel master cylinder kit on my 02Pitbull with Harley style controls and a 5/8 bore size is part # 45072-87.
