Front Axle - Shaft Failing or Surface Blemish?

Changed front tire and wheel bearings and noticed the axle had some odd marks/discolorations on one side of the shaft. Not sure if this is initial signs of shaft failing or simply discolorations, but there are two almost identical brownish marks on opposite sides of the shaft if rotated 180 degrees. Any thoughts on this?

Looks like the seals rubbed a bit. If its just that, button it up n roll.

Nearly impossible to fail. Good question to ask however.
