Well, I went on a hell of a ride yesterday. But ended up stranded again at the end of the day. Bike wouldnt start, looked down and the plug on the VR going to the stator was fried! So I am gonna need both for starters. Does anyone know if either of these are proprietary items, or can I pick them up at an HD shop?

I think that are all the same I know I got a accell HD model on mine, not sure about the part that goes in the case. plugs are the same as far as I know, my VR died around 500 miles, simple to change, I'd check the charging system before you replace the VR..

I wonder if I coudl put a new plug on the voltage regulator? Eric, where the VR plugs into motor/stator is fried, melted, burnt, etc. I ahve no choice but replace tehm both, unless I could put new plugs on them. I dont know if thats possible.

I'd say if the plug melted, you have other problems with the charging system and it may need to be completely changed.

I went to the Compu-Fire 40 amp 3 phase charging system and has been great. It fits, but a very slight mod needs done for it to fit because it is a larger unit. See my How-to for the mods that need done. It was still an easy install. And it charges at almost full output at an idle, unlike the stock system.
