Fried VR No CB?

I have a 2006 K-9 (about 2 months now) and I did all the wire connector sealing/weatherproofing earlier this week I read about on this site. Finished. Bike started. Ran well. For about 1.5 miles. Smoke poured out of my Voltage Regulator at a stoplight. But the bike kept running. Would not start after I parked it. Replacing the VR and I traced the B wire back to the battery where it should hook up to the circuit breaker (according to 2005 Service manual w/o K-9s in it--I could find not find a 2006 K-9 SM). The "CB" has only one bolt holding it to battery tray (other holes don't line up) and the VR cable hooks right on top of the Red Hot cables that run to battery. Only . Don't look like a CB to me. Any advice or ideas?

I should just run an inline 40Amp fuse then I guess. At least for now. Correct?

Thanks. That is there. Just wanted to be sure before hooking the new VR up. Afraid when I sealed up the wires I may have mucked something up. Maybe now was the VR's time to go or maybe after all the new sealed connectors where done, it finally got a full charge running through it. My tach and headlight began working as they were intended too after sealing/new connections there too. Appreciate the help. Thanks again.

What you have is a power distribution post. Connect the VR to it and or the one that comes with the kit and then run the 40Amp inline fuse to the Battery Post and you are done.

You are lucky it happened in only 1.5 miles hopefully you didn't fry your battery or anything else.

Thanks all. Replaced the VR and nothing would light up. Checked the 40 amp fuse and it was fried. Replaced that and everything works better than ever w/o a single issue. This forum sure is awesome for getting this type of advice so quickly and with such high quality results. I truly am grateful for the assistance and hope I can pass it on some day. Until then, wheels down.
