Hello all,

Just got the bike back from some work and my Dad reported an oil leak the size of a beer can onder the bike....I read the threads other guys have posted on leaks after installs...but I think that was residual oil from the wet primary...Dave says this is fresh engine oil as it was just serviced and its clean oil....he's going to ride it and give it a chance to stop....what do you guys think....is it a seal or will it stop after a few rides....

Thanks,

Did you change the crank seal? I had to change mine after my open primary install. Also I was told to install it oppposit side out. Never another leak.

Thanks Guys.... I dont wrench that much anymore.....20 years of working on airplanes....I got plenty of tool box time but I have a great mechanic work on all my stuff now...they call him Bruce... and I have a large body of water between me and my garage... dont think the crank seal was replaced...I will ask..

I am sure its going to be fine...if it needs a seal that's easy enough...its looks like a million bucks....Karata rocks..!

If it continues only one place that much oil would come from and that would be the crank seal:bang:. Pig Pen and VIN 1800 are both right about the seal. S&S says to reverse the seal when going to Open Primary, not everybody has done that including me and have not had any leaks (yet). But your seal may have been bad for a while but with the wet set-up you never would have notice.

You will get some leak from the starter and such but it won't last maybe a day or so, don't panic?

I had the same problem when I installed my open Primary. I asked and was told I had to replace the crank seal. I decided not to mess with it and let residual oil from the wet primary work it's way out and it did. After a few rides it went away and all is well. :2thumbs:

I got about 2 seasons out of mine before I had to replace the seal. As the others have said make sure to install the new seal backwards.

Sounds like unless the seal is replaced "backwards" a leak is around the corner....maybe a year or so but coming....
