Far as I have read Knotsos "etiquette thread" IS NOT about rules. Its just a thread very well written about What bikes we have,What this forum is about and what can we expect of both !
Big Dogs are not for everybody.

You will only do yourself a huge favor by doing a lot of research on the bikes you are interested in and making sure this is the bike you really want.

These bikes are long, heavy cruisers, have big tires, big inch solid mounted motors, they are not crotch rockets, they do need maintained and can be finiky, as do most wives n girlfriends. These are not highly refined motorcycles, and issues will arise, the prudent buyer purchases these bikes knowing this upfront. Yet some think just because they spent 25k or more on a BDM, that it will not have issues and then freak out when something happens and are not mature about getting the issue resolved.

It does not matter to me why a person buys these type of bikes, yet when they do, they should understand what they are.

They should also understand that BDM has sold over 26000 bikes and many owners are on their 2nd, 3rd or 4th Big Dog. There is a reason for this, these owners completly understand what these bikes are and how best to care for them. When an issue comes up, they do not blame anything on everyone else. What we all need to understand is that when we read a couple dozen threads on issues with these bikes, is that this is such a small number in relation to the number of bikes sold that in the big picture, it is not worthhy of blasting the company for all these known issues. Not to diminish the problem that an owner is having 'cause that is a huge problem to him. Yes there are known issues, and I can assure you the factory is working to resolve these. In 2005, Sheldon put his whole focus on resolving the issues and the result is that '06 and up are almost issue free. Yes, there are still items to be worked on, and they are. If you expect the factory to answer whining and bitching in these forum's, well why would they reward that behavior? Master Tech's from the factory have come out and responded to mature, responsible posts. In the overall scheme of Big Dog Motorcycles, this company has produced thousands of production custom bikes that are reliable and have gone above and beyond at times that any other company would not have.

Forum Respect:
If you are new to this site, or any forum for that matter, with Respect to the forum members, please do a complete Intro, then join in on some of the biker related items in these threads.

When an issue comes up on these bikes, we welcome all who have utilized the search feature first, then if they still have a question, to state it in a post with all the symptoms and what nots the bike has gone thru. Spell out the issue in a timeline and a step by step of what it is doing and what you or the dealer have done to try to fix it. We take great pride in helping ppl fix what ails their dog and in virtually every case, we do. If not we can steer you in the right direction to resolving your issues.

Dealers:
There are good and bad. Some dealers have excellent Techs, some are learning and not all know everything. Yet, a great Tech knows his worth and may move on to another opportunity leaving a dealer with Techs that are not up to speed yet. If the bike is still under warranty, find an authorized repair facility that you like and trust.

If your scoot is out of warranty, it would behove you to buy a repair manual, read it, and when issues arise (and they most certaintly will), you can do proper research (this forum has probably answered everything at one time or another), then come out and let us know what we can do to help get you back on the scoot with a big grin

Now, a new poster who comes on here pissing and moaning and slamming BDM, it's dealers and other owners, will not be happy with some comments. This is going to happen in all facets of life, and on all forums.

Would you, on your first day on a job walk into the Owners office and start bitching about his products and demanding action? Doubt it, but if you do, you will not be happy.

Respect is expected on this forum.

These are my thoughts and if any of this needs clarifying, PM me.

Now, get out and ride these beautiful bikes that were built to be rode hard and put away wet.

I voted yes it should but I also don't believe people should be banned for bashing anyone including forum sponsors, dealerships, products and/or services including BDM themselves. I mean part of a forum has to be alerting other members to good as well as bad experiences we've had. I do get tired of someone coming on here and whining about a problem their having and not being proactive and self motivating about getting the problem solved. Some people you just can't help. But it's up to me as to if I want to respond or not. Let them post. Most of the time they take a pretty good thumping anyway and disappear.

Kind of like this.

The Pure Power has twice the filtering area as the K&P. And if you compare them side by side it is obvious which is better. So if you have not compared the two side by side I suggest you keep quite.

But each too there own, just offering a better alternative to those that want the best filter. Just because something works for 50,000 does not make it any better than a stock filter that if changed regularly would also give 50,000 miles on a S&S engine so what is your point? Other than being a dick!

Hasn't been on since 6-8-10.
They come and go.

And how did he get a rep power of 3. I'm pissed.

I agree; I also think it should be included in a terms of service/usage for signing up. I also think it should be considered to add another section of the forum for pity seekers; we could call it the 'tissue box'. It's probably a good thing I don't run the show...hahah....:D
Tissue box!!!Good one Jim!!!:roll::roll::2thumbs::roll:

I'll give my two cents here, and a bit of history.

The politics/religion/racists rules enforcement came into play when the Secret Service made a visit to my house about a thread gone bad... it reached the point of a death threat against Obama, and I was facing a federal subpoena. What some of you may not know is the buck always stops with one person, and when it comes to Big Dog Biker, I'm that person.

So, if any other members feel the way TKbulldog05 does, you can leave. I'm not violating anyone's constitutional rights... this is a private site OWNED and paid for by me. I don't care to have any form of law enforcement showing up at my house again.

Second, I understand frustration and a new member coming here and venting, shit happens. What becomes a problem is if all that member does is vent and bitch. We are all grown-ups and should know there are constructive ways to post your problems, list as many factors as possible, and ask for help. When it becomes a pissing match it does no one any good and increases the likely hood of great information being missed because a thread goes way off topic. Venting once in a while is fine, just don't make it your way of interacting with the members. This also goes with businesses/vendors/BDM, if there is a problem that arises and you can't make it right with that entity, feel free to post it here but don't go off on rants just to rant, it gets old so fast.

I've only asked for two things here, respect everyone and interact as if you were face to face. It's expanded a bit due to the LEO issue I had, but the basics are still there.

And to address the issue of jumping someone's shit when they ask for help, cut the new guys some slack. They may have reached absolute frustration with their Dog. Telling people to sell their bikes because they don't know how to fix it is completely against why BDB was started. I'm fine wrenching on four wheels but their are differences when coming to two wheels. Give them a break and try to help them or lead them in the right direction with searches. We all learned somewhere.

Intro's, some people like them, I could care less as I usually don't do them. But everyone has their likes and dislikes.

Lastly, a bit of advice for new members, take a bit of time to get to know the other members, as much as you can from a forum. See how they interact with others. They maybe a smart ass and you could easily take them the wrong way, which leads to problems. If you are unsure, PM that member and get clarification. Taking a conversation to a private medium is far better then doing it in public. In most cases, there is a misunderstanding some where.

The bottom line is the less rules, the better. The few rules we DO have in place are there for a very good reason.

Very well put Tim!! I bet if we all have respect there would be less rules in all aspects of our lives. That being said I did my research and knew full well what I was getting into. I love my Dog and would probably buy it off myself for more than I paid for it. This forum rocks and I know if I have anything happen I will be able to learn what I need here. You guys know your shit and have my respect big time!

Seems like a good time to repost this so some can understand our position.
