fork oil change

It is easier if you do. You can always leave the forks in tact. If so you have to remove the wheel and axle, then take the dampner bolt off with the crushed copper washer and drain it from there. You can't reuse that copper washer. To answer your question, Just take the forks off. Once you take the wheel and axle off there are just two pinch bolts on the lower tree that need to be unscrewed in addition to the front fender bolts. Then the fork slides right out. Much easier that way. If your going to change the oil, get the rebuild kit and do the seals and bushings also. $60 kit for 41mm forks. Not hard at all to do. Good luck.

Thanks guys for the info. I will remove the forks and drain the oil. Does anyone have a part # for the rebuild kit for a 2004 ridgeback?

All BDM that use the conventional telescopic forks are 41mm tubes. Any 41 mm seal and bushings that also works on HDs will work on BDM.

I'm about to overhaul my K-9 front shocks. I like to use 10w oil as well. It lets the forks move a bit better.

Jan, I just rebuilt the forks on my K9 and Postman's K9 with a FORK LEG REBUILD KIT from J&P CYCLES. Part #221-411 for $64.99 each. Kit includes everything you need, and you won't believe how much crud you get out of the lower leg. Have a full can of brake cleaner spray handy, you are going to need it.
