Well need some advice, about a year ago I had my forks serviced and the mechanic said that I needed new fork tubes. So had them replaced. About a month after that I noticed that there was oil on the legs, took it back to the shop and they said it was vasoline and that it would go away. Well fast forward to now and they are still leaking oil, and now the chrome has gone away form the legs. Been about 1,000 miles sence replaced. So took bike to a different shop to have fixed, old shop pissed me off so not going back, new shop says I need new fork legs. New shop says the other shop put real shitty tubes in and thats why the legs are messed up now.

So my ? is, is new shop right? The old shop put shitty tubes in or did they just not replace the old bushings. I have read up on this and sounds like if you dont replace the bushings that they will fuck up the legs.

So sounds like I am going to have to get new fork legs, does anyone know where to get a good set. New shop says new fork legs will be anywhere between 400 and 600 bucks.

Also does anyone know why when the chrome starts to turn yellow on the legs you have replace them?

That yellow is brass. Its laid on the metal first to give the hard chrome good adhesion and a smooth finish. Once you get to that point the tubes are too far out of spec. and will no longer seat against the seal properly thus leaving you with a leak.

I to have 06 K9, I did fork seal around 10000 miles, and 20000 miles, 30000 miles and serviced ( new oil every 5000 ), even with that I have had to replace my fork tubes once and now need whole front forks at 35000 miles -but my chrome is still Ok, there are a fair amount of people that keep riding with the forks leaking from top, mine have been leaking and I just changed fork oil - but I drained into cup so I could measure and still had the 10 OZ in it so leak is slow. because of the long extension I have been told this is going to happen, pretty much no matter what. I got my first fork tubes from bigdog and they were about $110.00 each but this was several years ago, whole new front forks with axle from bigdog is around $800.00 - I keep hoping they will go on sale.
hope this helped
