I would tend to believe, having been an off road racer, that your going to want foam if you live and ride in dusty environments. Otherwise stick with the K&N.
Wild Steed Worx can get either for you
Juz sayin........:D

I run a piece of window screen. I've had my heads off twice and my cylinders show very little scoring or unusual wear over the course of about 15k mi. For about 5k I ran no filter at all, just an open intake over here in NJ. Just putting things in perspective...

Dusty enviroments as Curtis stated is not restricted to OFF ROAD.
There are areas in the world that are extremely dusty/dirty (airborne) where you can easily ride on road. Even in the US there are sections that if you ride there as the norm you'd want foam or at least maintain the K&N on a more freq schedule.

I had an issue with stock foam filter on the wifes Texas Chopper, got caught in the rain & it
sucked up water that sucked through the carb and into the oil. Lots of white smoke. Now have K&N no problems :)
