So I was finishing up an oil change and getting ready to remount the tool bag on the front down tubes. I picked up the bag and looked at it. The leather was all deformed from the weight of what I carry and also the lack of ridged support. So here’s what I came up with. It’s very easy to do and the results were even better than I expected.
Start with a 4" piece of thin walled PVC drain pipe (or whatever size works for the bag you have)
Cut to length and check for fit.
Cut with tool of choice.
Apply heat with tool of choice. I would have prefered a heat gun, but my Mapp Gas torch worked just fine. As you heat the PVC, it will start to straiten out on its own. Just a little at a time as not to melt anything. You can also help to form it using your hands, but be careful not to get burned.
First one side.
Then the other......(you get the idea)
Getting close...
Check for fit again. Your gonna have to trim off some at the top on both sides.
After trimming, make final adjustments making sure everythings nice and strait.
Again, check for fit...
PERFECT......
Drill new holes...
From inside....
Before paint.....
After paint.....
Check one last time....
I used some nylon zip ties to mount to the down tubes.
On the front of the bag I just used 4 drywall tappet screws (it's all I had at the time) but you could just as well find some other method such as rivets or machine screws with washers and a nut. Make sure the PVC is pushed tightly down into the bag and then secure.
Open or closed, there is absolutly no sag what so ever.
So there ya go.............
