Flame mirrors

My new mirrors droop. The wind and vibration make them droop liike a basset hounds ears. I tired locktite on the rather smallish screw that connects the mirror to the stem, and I put RTV caulk on the mirror itself. No luck. :bang: I did speak to Moespeeds, who advises that these mirrors are heavy and tend to loosen up and droop. Does anyone have any more to add to this dilemna? It sounds like a bad design to me. I may return them to Rockstar, but wanted to try to get them to work first. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I have heard the cheap ones will do this. I ordered a set from Wicked Image from Nelson (Wickedbasterdcycles) I hope these don't. I figure you prolly get what you pay for.

My old ones did that, drove me nucking futs. Bought new ones that weren't the ebay special for 40 bucks and haven't had the problem since.

Everyone that has replied has the newer BDM controls.

Jerry has the old HD style controls!!
When I had my 03 with this style of controls I had never ending problems with those mirrors no matter how much loctite you used! Finally had to use those little lock washers with all the teeth on them that will ruin the chrome but it held up pretty well.

The newer models have the posts that sit down inside the controls and do a better job of holding the mirrors in place. I've never had one come loose.
Hey....... a positive note on the propietary BDM controls!!!!!

That's what I was trying to spit out yesterday Jerry and got sidetracked. If the loctite and RTV doesn't work, get some of those little star washers with teeth on them. I'll have to look at mine, I had this problem last year and fixed it. I think I just put some regular lock washers on there. If you feel like riding over one night this week I can really play with them. The thing with yours is the mirror is so damn heavy. Mine are cheap but they are very light so it's not such a problem.

Thanks Moe. You are the best. I am going to see Rockstar about this. If it doesn't work, I will try the star washers. I will fall you if it doesn't work out.

I have had the same problem with my stock mirrors on my Pitbull. Felt like pulling the damn things off, but will try some of your suggestions.

Thanks

I did mine when they were new....took the mirror apart and put blue loctite on every allen bolt...before I put them on the bike....seems to be holding up pretty good...

Got that same set on my sons honda. They did the same thing...loosen up and fall.....I took some heavy duty double sided tape....The grey stuff you get at Lowes..I put a small piece between the stem and the mirror and tightened the shit out of it....Made a small sticky gasket of sorts.....thats been a year ago and they are still there. Use what you got.

I purchased the same Debrix mirrors just a few months ago and suffered similar fate. The mirrors kept drooping until I loctited like crazy. I had to switch out the screws at that point because they were so stripped from me trying to keep them tight. Ace hardware had the small allen screws (4mm I think) and I haven't had a problem since.

I got a similar set of these from Debrix in March of this year. Did the same thing as you did Dave with the Loctite.

All was good until about 5000 miles on them and they will shake loose every now and again.

I just check and retighten every couple of weeks. Will look into it when I am done riding for the season.

got rid of the flame mirrors

I traded the flame mirrors back to the dealer for a set of Wicked Image gothics. They look awesome, they are much lighter and balanced, and I can actually see out of them... :2thumbs: As someone once said, "if you buy the best, you only cry once..." But they were expensive.:(

Did you guys have to use the BD mirror adapter with the debrix mirror I am thinking about putting a set on my 05 chopper.....62.99 is not a bad price I just hope that the chrome will last for a couple of seasons. Will be using locktite for sure.
