IF LIFE SUCKS, GO RIDE
well my dog has been running good. hadnt had any problems in a year. normally ride at least once a week but hadnt in two weeks,. i always turn off the gass when i park it. went to get on it this morning and darn thing wont start. it will crank good, took off the breather and see gas squirting in the carb. i let it sit for about 5 hours and hit it again and still no fire. RPM lights will flash if i hold it to long. I ht the stop switch and it wont try to start and hit the run button and will try to start but just wont fire. I have just about everything on the bike exept mess with the electrical. Just need some advise on what to look for.

I bet it's the battery if just two weeks won't start and nothing else.

What do you mean by "tries to start?" does it spin good or sluggish?

Dogbone states it cranks good each time but won't "fire" so I'm assuming the starter spins normal …. He sees fuel spurting into carb & still no fire-up... perhaps suspect the ignition? Pull a plug to confirm a good spark. Bad ignition module?

I’m having the same problem.
I was tuning the carb and it died. It ran once at high revs and quit now I can’t start it.
I see fuel squirting both in and out of the carb. I changed spark plugs gapped at .040. Getting spark. Got a new Shorai battery with over 500cca. But it just won’t run.

Hi Andy. Happy New Year & Welcome from Florida. Explain the tuning of carb. 1st why & what adjustments did you make? S&S Super e? Very easy to get these just a little bit out and prevent the bike from starting.

Hey Mick. Happy New Year and thank you from Hawaii. It was sitting for 2 years (maxed out my probation). Changed my battery and it cranked up first right away.
1. Why) I rode it about 10 miles. Was running a bit rich. Had a more burble sound. When lean it snaps and pops, sounds dry.
2. What) at my destination while bike warm I was doing the secondary adjustments (from YouTube S&S super e and g initial set up) adjusting the air fuel mixture screw when it died. And it wouldn’t start.
3) it’s a Super g on a 2005 Ridgeback.
I changed plugs. They were black fouled but not wet. Put the boot on new ones and saw spark.
Now here’s where I think I really fucked up. I did the initial set up again. But couldn’t see idle speed screw just touches. So I went by how much the plate was open. Could it be the idle is too high to make the bike not run? Sometime during trying to get it running again I think I flooded the engine. I waited 24 hours, checked plugs(still looked new) and cranked the engine plugs removed to get any gas out. None shot out. Then cranked with throttle wide open. It ran really fast even after closing the throttle and died never to start again.
I’ve had the bike for about 5 years. Adjusted the carb many times, changed the clutch, rebuilt the brake master cylinder. So I’m not a totally hopeless wrencher. I really can’t believe I’m unable to get it running.

Yes. That’s exactly what will happen. Leave the set screw off the idle screw plate. If I am correct the 1st time you tried to start it ran way high idle. Don’t listen to the guy in the video on that. Start the bike with the choke on but idle set screw to but not touching the adjustment plate. Make sure that your other adjustments from the video are close to what he detailed. You may have to throttle a bit once you turn it over. But it should fire. Keep us posted.

Welcome Andy from NJ,
Since your in Hawaii I'll be happy to come out and assist you. Just need you to send me a Airline ti :oldlaugh: cket!!
You said the bike was sitting 2 years. Did you drain and put in fresh fuel? If not you should it will help. Did you change your jet's? If so what size did you put in? If you had the bowl down were you sure to get the ejector nozzle o-ring back in place?
From your description it seems like you may be starving the bike. If you have good fuel and spark my guess is you have your adj screws incorrect. Idle mixture needs to ultimately end up around 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 off lightly seated position when jets are correct.
If your fuel and spark are good this quick guide should get you started. Pull your air cleaner if you can't see your engagement point for the idle speed screw ,1/2 turn is not a lot.
For my starting procedure (117 K9 especially in warm weather) I give no throttle , hit start, when it's cranking I raise the enrich lever about 1/2 and it will start. If need be at that time I may give a little throttle.
I don't know if you noticed but Dogbone never got back and said what fixed his problem. Not a good way help people learn.

Got it started! Thanks for the tuning tips guys.
I set the idle too high as I was going by looking at the butterfly move, not watching the screw touch. (My new apartment parking garage has bad lighting and I didn’t want to look like a tweaker with a headlamp on... but I ended up using a headlamp so I could see and use both hands) Cranks right up and ran great.
One of the problems was the plug for the MAP sensor hole in the intake manifold came out so I was having to adjust way rich to try and make it run better with that huge vacuum leak. I used JB Weld on a short bolt to plug the hole
But ran into another issue.....
After I got the engine running right and changing the engine and primary oil. I went on a 30 mile one way ride. Toward the end and all the way back,
[[[||when I let off the throttle it makes a bad vibration but goes away when on the throttle||]]]
When a few miles away from home the vibes started even when the throttle was cracked but not really on the gas. Anyone ever heard of this? It was so bad I had to pull over and check if my wheels were gonna fall off or something. Feels like it’s coming from the engine or primary. Constant fast, strong vibration doesn’t really slow down relative to road speed.

Yes after sitting so long the gas no longer smelled like gas. I drained the tank and did the Kreem tank reline kit.
After doing a lot of internet searching I found the extra hose and jet is a Zippers Performance Thunderjets 3rd fuel circuit. I bought the bike as is. I don’t know the jet size. Only that it is an Arizona bike. It runs really strong and can beat sport bikes off the line through the first few gears. So I think the jetting is correct. I did end up getting it started. I explained further down. I’m not replying in order bc this is my first time really using this app.
Thanks bro

Happy to hear you got it running. Try this troubleshooting guide for Vibration it will at least eliminate possible causes.
Off the wall, but I once had a vibration which would come and go. I had a stalling issue at the same time and when I replaced the crank sensor both problems went away. Probably a coincidence but I thought worth mentioning.
Pay special attention to upper motor mount .
