After 8 months of waiting , I finely got the motor back and on the chopper.
It`s a true 117 S&S now. It has a 626 cam , larger valves , coated pistons , went with a new cam sensor ignition, instead of the crank sensor that came with the bike. The guy who built the motor said he has never experience any problems with the EHC after he installed that kind of ignition. Will see but I heard it start up tonight and it sounds great. It`s going to take some time to break it in. He says he makes the motors real tight. I`m just glad to finely be making progress on the bike. Boy I wish I had of taken it there before it blew up. It would have cost me 1800.00 instead of the 4500.00 it ended up costing me. But it`s a brand new motor , everything was done on it. New push rods , the crank has been bal. & trued. Pick it up tomorrow. Can`t wait.
My Harley on the other hand is totaled. I thought I could settle with the insurance company and keep the bike and fix it and put it back on the road. Aparently it doesn`t work like that in NJ. Once the bike is totaled in order to get a salvage title everything would have to be fixed. The frame would have to be straightened by a cert. Frame place. Which would mean a total tear down. Which would end up costing me more than I`m willing to send. So now I just want the Bike replaced. I don`t think I`m asking to much. Will see , but , at least I have my Dog back. I`m so can`t to ride the chopper again. I almost forgot what it was like to ride it.

Rode the bike for the first yime.

After starting the bike and letting cool like 11 times , I rode it home stopping every 10 miles and letting it cool down. Just breaking it in. The bike wants to run , I can tell. What a difference. Can`t wait until 500 miles so I can se how it really is going to run. It`s a true S&S 117 now. I`m thankful to Joey Sternotti , the guy to rebuilt the motor. He also has the world record as the fastest man on a Harley. Top Fuel. So thanks Joey.

Hmmm, never heard of anyone having to break in a motor like that by letting it cool every 10 miles. If u can explain to me the purpose or benefits to that.

That first 500 on a motor rebuild takes FOREVER.
Fluctuate your RPM's and don't rev over 3k you'll be good

Sics6 , The weather here right now in NJ is extremely hot. The guy who built the motor builds them really tight. So , that is why he suggested that.
I haven`t gone over 3000 RPM yet , but , it wants to. You can feel it. I just got back from putting 40 miles on it. It still alittle joppy in the lower range but I`m sure that will come around as it breaks in. It runs great.

Okay I see, I also gotta break in my motor, probably got around 40 miles on mine also. I cruise it around 2,500- 3,000 rpms. Well it's been down ever since my wp switch control module died, but soon imma get that solved and be rolling again.

214 miles on the bike , still breaking the new motor in. The thing is running great. I`m almost afraid is running to good. It is running way better than when I first got it. Just goes to show you , you , may not even know how bad it was running. I thought it was running good than , but, nothing like now.
I`m having a blast riding this thing. This is why I bought a big dog.
I`m thankful

can somebody please explain to me how the cam number difference affects power? I have a 630 cam in my 124, and I have no idea what that actually means when I tell people what it has for a power plant. Sorry to hijack the thread, but i have no clue. That rebuild sounds like a serious pain in the ass, and a real reward!

Tylerdavin ,
Although am by no means a bike mechanic , I have had experience with different cam instulations. The higher the number the higher the lift of the valves. That is not the only determining factor though. It depends on different factors like duration. That's the amount of time the cam will keep the valve open. The higher the number , the higher the compression requirements. You can do a search on the web and it will explain all the you need to know about cams.
As you can see from my recent build , I`m running a S&S 626 on a 117" S&S motor. The valves have been enlarged , the crank was bal. & trued. I out manual compression releases on it. Put a new ignition on it. I got away from the crank sensor and went with a cam sensor. I left the crank sensor hooked up so I would still have a Tach. I have just put 800 miles on it and although I haven`t had it dyno tuned yet . I can feel the difference . seat of the pants. This motor runs great. I bet your 124 runs great with that cam in it doesn`t it?

I will try

I will try to upload a video of the sound of the motor. I had Joey Sternotti rebuild it, He has a place in Naples Fla. and also Blackwood ,NJ . He is the fastest man on a Harley in the world. He fields a top fuel Harley on the NHRA circuit. He`s an intence guy ,but , he has worked on a few motors for me and I have great confidence in him. You can run into all kinds of guys who think they know about bikes ,but , only a few really know and can do the machine work and all.
