Hey guys and gals was curious as to if anyone out there has swapped over to a chain on their bigdog or not? I am having issues with the belt jumping teeth when I power up or get on it to enter a freeway. Although I have tightened the belt to specs this problem still occurs.

X2. Good belt + good pulley should have no troubles with skipping unless your motor is built to the hilt...and even then I think it would take a LOT.

Marv has converted his to a chain. I agree with the others, your belt shouldn't be skipping if its tightened properly.

Just remember that you are going to have to clean/lube a chain every 250 to 500 miles and after riding in the rain. When those o-rings go, it gets pretty messy. Also, a good chain wax helps but you are going to get lube flinging off somewhere!

If the belt and pulley are not worn, check your brake rotor, it could be grabbing on the
pads and making it feel like it is jumping the teeth. I had this problem once, rotor
was warped.

Dont want to worry you but,,,,mine was doing this last week, belt kept going slack and couldnt see why ! problem found, snapped bolt on swing arm. It was moving enough to allow belt to slip.

Thanx for the info marv, being over here in uk the replacement will have to be an alternative fix. the tyre was rubbing on one of the bolts so the wheel was well out of line. Being taken apart next tuesday so see what mechanic comes up with.

Chain on the Mutt. I like it. Klotz KLR chain lube, once a week. Dries quick with no fling noticed.
